Karting Across Thailand – Part 6: Ko Samui – Samui Go-Kart

sam

This is part of my series where I kart across all of Thailand, publishing them in the order I visited them. For more about deciding to do this and how I went out and about and got from place A to B you can read my intro article to the series, I Kart Raced Across the Entire Country of Thailand. Also worth checking for some general safety comments for karting if you’re new to it, as safety is not always priority #1 out there…

Name: Samui Go-Kart

Facebook: Samui GoKart

Location: map

Cost to get there: Ah, this is another one where I don’t recall. I got a tuktuk/truck to take me there, possibly for 150? Walking down the street, I flagged one down to take me back to Chaweng for 100 as I recall. I do remember that guy had his wife in the passenger seat of the cabin and a super fluffy white pomeranian though.

Cost: Oops I didn’t capture this, #fail. 12 minute sessions.

Track: This track is used in the Thai kart racing circuit, and is a pretty good challenging track as well. Would be good to run with your friends on this one to see who knows what thye’re doing.

Popularity: Once again, arrive and drive best bets are for a weekend. I’m not sure if the day is better than the evening or not – the heat is less during the evening but I think people generally kart during the day. This is not by the most popular beach area on the island, Chaweng, which is probably part of the reason the EasyKart is hit up more frequently here.

Karts: I think these were 270cc 4-strokes here as well.

Timing: Yes, with print outs. Woohoo! Unfortunately one of the times I got slower on the video session vs. my intro track familiarization sesion! Looks like my laps were more consistent on the second session though.

Overall: Worth checking out if you are on the island with some buddies or looking to try out a new track.

Video: If you click the title on the embedded video, it will open up in youtube and you’ll be able to full screen it.

A bit darker out with some evening laps.
