Best Burgers in Mexico City – CDMX Hamburger Review

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve made some posts on here – apparently 3 years – but look, we’ve got something important to talk about.  That something important is burgers.  I was “stuck” during the pandemic for about 18 months in Thailand, and my near daily triple cheeseburger habit at a pop up (KinBurger) has now been broken – and sadly it’s been broken by a stream of generally disappointing burgers, from around me chilling in my parents’ basement in the Chicago burbs, to a short stay in Las Vegas, to now my first week in Mexico City.  As a tasty go to I’ll note the KinBurger benchmark I’m using here as an anchored memory point is a smashburger style patty.  They use brisket and short ribs in their patties.

I should also give a shout out to Kraken who I enjoyed as well.

So after that burger porn to kick off this article, I’ll note that I decided to kick off this endeavor after finding google reviews, various travel website reviews, and facebook comments recommending some burger places I found quite disappointing and not worth the hype nor money here in Mexico City.  Thus I decided to do a brute force best burger search.  Initially I expected to try maybe 10-15 burgers max across a couple weeks or so; but Mexico City is a big food city; so there are a lot of options and this took a bit longer than planned.  As I am primarily looking to source burgers I’d regularly actually eat, this search was not across all of the very large CDMX area, but limited to those places I am willing to walk to; although this includes some long walks.  I am located in Anzures, which has little itself, but a walk in most directions yields a lot to try; particularly West to Polanco or South to Roma and Condesa areas.  I walked to the majority of these places.

While I am trying to eat more healthily, it would be a disservice to you as a reader were I not to eat fries, so I will order them as well. My high blood pressure and sacrifice is your gain.  I largely expect to have the burgers with water or a diet coke/pepsi.  Watching my figure for you all as best I can.  I will order all burgers medium if asked.  I tend to cook medium well myself.  I think restaurants tend to err/end up here if you ask for medium anyway.  I am not too picky about this.

Up Front Summary

This list was constructed as a Burger Bible for those places I think are even worth visiting at all and spending your time/money at, and I’ll arrange my summary list in 3 tiers with notes.  I didn’t exactly get tired trying burgers, but moreso writing about them, and am not an author at that.  So do not expect the greatest descriptions of these experiences, but use this guide as more of an accounting audit, and whether 150, 250, 350 MXN is worth spending and a visit to any of these places you might be considering.  Lists are in no particular order with a rough attempt to standardize pricing across what I had at them.  The Tier 3 list likely has the most variance for how good a burger is, eg. some met the criteria for just mentioning them here and some are mentally debatable for moving up a tier.  Some in Tier 3 I said hmm, not bad, while some I really enjoyed.  Also note some on the list are dark kitchens only available via delivery; prices listed also do not reflect fairly common Rappi discounts or discounts on Uber Eats via Uber Pass, etc.

Tier 3 – Worth a visit; is this a place I would have a burger at again?  Would I recommend you give it a try and expect you to be minimally satisfied, if not quite happy with the visit?

The article is listed in chronological order of my hunt.  Onto the burger audit!

Butcher & Sons – (Roma Norte)

Visited: 8/25/2021 – lunch; Original burger, 305g ($175 MXN) + fries, 220g (65) + water.  240; w/15% tip, 276 MXN total, ~$13.58 USD

Vibe

In a cool corner in a nice area by a park.  Outdoor and indoor seating.  Nice little spot, reasonably small so I assume it could get fairly busy around dinner.

Burger

I went simple and went with the Original; it was one of the 3 recommended by the waiter (also the Hendrix and Bowie on their current website) – tomato, monterrey jack, red onion, and pickles.  Salted pretty well.  A standard burger I would expect in a place like this, although a bit plain; this patty was nothing to get excited about but is probably a good foundation for some of their more topping rich offerings.

Fries

The fries were pretty perfect standard fries.  Nice and crunchy and consistent.  I didn’t use the dijon mustard and B&S appears to make their own ketchups.  The curry one was interesting, the original one was pretty standard fare, and the picante I found surprisingly not that hot at all.  Perhaps a tiny hint, I ended up tasting much more sweetness in it.  I used it the most of the set.

Overall

I didn’t really find this place all that enticing or one that I would return to, despite the frequent recommendations and popularity on various lists.

Burger –  Round 2

I probably should not be doing any second chances, but 9/4 late night I gave them another go via the Polanco location and Uber Eats.  I got the Cash burger and ordered it medium; 174 burger + 46 MXN delivered w/10% driver tip.  Description: blue cheese, crispy shallot, lettuce, mayonnaise, brioche bread, 245g.  These guys came up a lot on best burger lists and in recommendations from people; so I figured I’d give them another go.

Per the description I was expecting fried onions; although they were small caramelized ones.  I liked adding a bit of the mustard sauce in particular; overall though the burger wasn’t very exciting, and I don’t think the reputation of this places matches the product for me.

Angusguesas – (Roma Sur)

Visited: 8/25/2021 – dinner; Manchega burger (150) + basic fries (48); 198 total.

Vibe

Just a small burger joint like many one might typically just walk by.  Indoor and outdoor sitting.  A quick snap from my table.

Burger

I got the Manchega.  Manchego cheese, red onions, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, pickles.  What this picture doesn’t do a great job of showing is that the patty was kind of small; shape/size compared to the bun it was just a little guy in there.  The menu says 150g of Angus beef.  The cheese looks all melty gooey here, but I didn’t recall it having much of an interesting taste.  My initial bite was all veg and bun; most of the second was as well.  Probably would have been better off with half the onions, they had a lot of presence given the size of the burger.  the burger itself wasn’t that flavorful.  Really the fries were more of the hero of the meal.

Fries

Good quantity and nice crunchy fries.  Came out a bit after my burger but hey, super fresh.  Enjoyed the more than the burger, as it looked more exciting than it actually tasted.

Overall

3 of the top 4 posts as of this writing in google reviews of this place have “local guides” professing this to be among the best burgers in CDMX, and I have no idea what these people are on about.

Hamburguesas a la Parrilla – (Roma Norte)

Visited: 8/25/2021 – post-dinner dinner; cheeseburger (47)

Vibe

Burger stand with a menu that is short and sweet.  This place was pretty popular, although I’m sure a slow night for them when I was visiting.

Burger

I got the cheeseburger, and I just took everything on it.  Not sure if there is a little mayo?  Ketchup, mustard, lettuce, tomato, onion, and the star – jalapeños.  Grilled pineapple seemed a popular item too.  This was a charcoal grilled burger; just standard fare there and nothing exciting about the patty really.  However, the burger as a package was pretty good.  The jalapeños were definitely key to the combo of everything in a bite working, and I actually I enjoyed this simple bun more than the others.  It is probably just some cheap soft mass produced bun from the grocery store, nonetheless, it was part of the overall package and good combo.  Note: apparently I made a mistake here, and the proper sandwich to get is the queso con piña, the cheeseburger with grilled pineapple!

Fries

While walking home after being disappointed by Angusguesas, I was close enough, and lied to myself about going to the gym after, to just say screw it and try out this place too.  Look people, I’m sacrificing for you to get this article out.  Yes; that’s 3 burgers in one day.  However, fries only twice.  Given those have been consistently good thus far, and I’m willing to accept most any fries if a burger is good, it does make me reconsider ordering fries when not included vs. swapping out for a healthier option.  Nonetheless.  No fries this time.  They would not actually be from this place anyway; they just do these burgers, and there is a separate stand with a guy who just happens to do basically only fries right across from them.  I went just burger though.  Such a healthy choice!

Overall

Good charred style burger, and good price; hard to beat in terms of value, as well as what is simply opening if you are having a late night burger craving.

Cajún Rustic Burgers – (Hipódromo Condesa)

Visited: 8/26/2021 – dinner; buddy 160g + roasted garlic seasoning + acadia toppings (219) + cajun fries (59); I also had a pop (35) and cheesecake (119) – 432, with 15% tip, $496.80 or $24.42 USD.

Vibe

Just a nice little corner spot.  No big sign out front, at night I originally walked past it because I wasn’t sure it was the right place.  In any case, it currently looks like this inside.

Burger

A bit of paralysis by analysis as there are a ton of options here.  You pick your size (70/110/160/200g) then seasoning for the meat; original, salt ‘n pepper, or roasted garlic – then finally the toppings set.  Given the waiter’s suggestions I tried a 160g original burger with acadia toppings.  All burgers come with gouda cheese and onions; the acadia toppings added a set of crispy hash browns as well as some bacon.  Pickles were also served on the side.  Check their menu or instagram for a lot of other versions.  They also have some burger specials which you can order, which come with different fancy sides (habanero asparagus, prosciutto wrapped brussel sprouts…)  Utensils were offered, but I could compress and eat this burger just fine.  The actual patty itself didn’t jump out at me, perhaps I just need a really salty burger?  The overall package was great though, and the most satisfying burger I have had in some time.  Happily devoured and was pretty content, thinking about what of the many other options to try on a future visit.

Fries

They have some regular fries and cajun fries; I tried the latter, looking for something different.  These are quite thin fries; probably many people would consider them chips (or crisps for you Euros) although they weren’t quite that (and better) – they also came with some kind of awesome house made ketchup dip.  It was sweet and had some heat.  It was good, so I was preparing myself for a tasty burger as well, and they complemented each other nicely.

Dessert…?

“Mike. You must try the cheesecake. Victor made it from scratch.”

I’m a big fan of cheesecake, and well, if Victor put in all that effort…  can’t leave him hanging…  this guy was good on the upsell, as I looked around the room, every table had cheesecake lol.  Although the one table with 2 girls only finished half of theirs.  Mine was only all for me, but I sure wasn’t going to leave any on the plate, it was quite good!

Overall

Enjoyed this place and will be happy to visit again, as there’s a large amount of options and things to try.  Looking forward to a future return.  Great customer service as well.

Viking Burguer – (Santa María la Ribera)

Visited: 8/27/2021 – dinner; Odin burger (125) with fries (+15); pop at +30 for me as well; 170 total.

Vibe

Little place carved out in a neighborhood/area that it seems is probably better to walk to during the day than the evening.  I only got seated right away as it was just my party of one, and ended up in a bit of a strange corner table, but room enough.  More room upstairs.  You’re not getting much here other than my door view, sorry.

Burger

This burger is indeed legitimately sizable – I’d be impressed with anyone eating the whole thing by hand, as I would suspect the structural integrity to quickly go out the window and create a huge mess.  I asked for utensils so I could cut it in half.  Not sure exactly what it was, but my favorite part about it was the cheese and it’s texture and subtle flavor.  The patty itself was fully uninteresting.  I was amazed the table behind me had a couple older women at it who both pounded one of these burgers down.  Like they were sitting around a couple hours ago, and decided that hey, they’d like a gal pal dinner to… some place with fawking HUGE burgers?  They put them down though.  I am guessing not their first visit.

Fries

These normally come with chips but I paid for the change to fries; nice that you get a few chips with the burger to try them out as well.  The fries were pretty standard.

Overall

Price vs. food volume here comes out to a decent value I suppose; but I did not find the burger something that was going to lure me back in for a return visit.

Embers – (Polanco)

Visited: 8/28/2021 – lunch; Super/Embers burger (145) with fries (45); pop at +35 for me as well.  With 15% tip, 259 MXN.

Vibe

A burger house with over 50 types of burgers.  Cool looking place, was hoping for something good here.

Burger

A bit overwhelming for choices, especially if your Spanish isn’t so great!  I ended up with #43, the Super/Embers burger.  If I am understanding the description correctly, the mushrooms are mixed into the meat?  There were some on it, along with bacon, Oaxaca cheese, and grilled onions.  The patty was nice texture wise and all, but did not have much flavor itself.  The burger came with some kind of sweet slaw as well.  The best part was the spicy pickled vegetables (escabeche?) like giardiniera.  Sans them it would have been pretty unexciting overall.

Fries

Some standard fries.  Nothing to remark here.

Overall

An extensive menu which may have some burger options I’d enjoy more; however at this price point there are already other known burgers that I like, so I don’t expect to be back.

Mistral Burger – (San Rafael)

Visited: 8/29/2021 – lunch; Meraki burger with fries; pop for me as well.  Oops, didn’t keep all the prices and didn’t have good luck stumbling on to the menu in google photos at present.  I think I paid around 220 MXN.

Vibe

I got here while they were still opening up the place.  It was listed in google hours but during covid I’m sure they open at a little more relaxed pace, I was the first/only diner for a while there.  In any case, the tables furthest inside were ready so I grabbed one, would be nicer up front or outdoors though.  Standard street burger shop space to me at this point.

Burger

I had the Meraki burger.  Google translated: soft bread with chunks of bacon and a touch of garlic, select beef, mozzarella cheese, stewed peppers, ketchup dressing and more bacon!  The buns seem to be ones they bake via google photos?  It was a nice bun and with a nice glaze of I guess garlic and salt.  The patty had good consistency, although I would have liked more seasoning on it as well.  This burger came with some tasty sauce, eg. the ketchup “dressing” and made an overall solid meal with the fries.

Fries

Another pretty standard set of fries, which were good.

Overall

Enjoyed this place and would be up for trying some other options on a subsequent return as well; can recommend.

Moy’s Burger – (San Rafael)

Visited: 8/29/2021 – dinner; Cheesy burger (110) + moylletes (molletes) (50) + soda (30) = 190.  I would have left a tip but she did not prompt me when paying by card and I did not have appropriate cash.

Vibe

Street burger joint with a decent amount of seating space.  What I should really note here is that for whatever reason, I was expecting this to be a lower expectations quick hit, which was not really the unbiased visit I should have gone in for.  The fries looked pretty standard in google photos, I was planning on passing on them since commoditized fries are more likely to add inches around my waist than valuable insight.  I also expected to get a pretty normal burger, although even their basic cheeseburger was more interesting than that.  I also could not resist trying a new side which I had entirely not heard of before, so went with the moylletes.

Burger

I went with the Cheesy; and with no regrets.  I do likes me some fried onions.  The cheesy is listed as: meat, crispy onion and cheese mix (mozarella, American, Swiss).  The patty itself was nothing special, if you even noticed it; this fella was largely onion and cheese.  Which I did not mind.  Like spilled out extra cheese you would be finishing off with many bites later.  So while the patty itself didn’t get me excited, the whole sandwich overall was enjoyable.

Molletes

I believe the menu listing item of moylletes here is simply a play on words for mollete?  I had never heard of these before.  Per wiki, a mollete, native to Mexico City, is made with bolillos sliced lengthwise and partially hollowed, filled with refried beans, and topped with cheese and slices of jalapeño or serrano peppers. It is then grilled in an oven until the cheese melts.  Mine was a burger bun, with a thin layer of beans, then melted cheese on top.  It was served with a spicy salsa side.  I was not saving myself any calories or carbs with this one vs. the fries.  Best to split with a friend, I think!

Overall

Less of a burger craving necessarily and more of a “bunch of cheese and fried onions” craving would be most likely to get me back here again.  If that sounds like a good time to you, then you should probably drop by and say hi.

Aut Aut Burgers – (Polanco)

Ordered: 8/30/2021 – lunch; a typical combo would be 249 on Uber Eats, + delivery, + tip, of 3 sliders, fries, and a soda.  Some sliders have upcharges in the combo.  I ordered 3 sliders only, with delivery and tip it was 208.

Vibe

Your location!

Burgers

I’ve ordered the Royale, Tocino, and Gorgonzola sliders, all noted as 90 grams.  They advise ordering 3 sliders per individual.

Royale – picaña beef, yellow cheese, tomato, and argula with a homemade chipotle mayonnaise.

Tocino – picaña, yellow cheese, white onions, and bacon.

Gorgonzola – picaña, gorgonzola cheese, red onions, and bacon.

I’m not typically a slider guy, but it is kind of nice to have 3 burgers instead of 1, right?  You get to sample a bunch of flavors as well.  The yellow (American?) cheese and bun combo was pretty solid period, and the gorgonzola was a nice break up and new taste among the set.  They were all pretty good; and if I had 3 more, they’d be devoured right now as well.  I think the Royale was my favorite, the chipotle mayo was good.  While not planning at the moment to order again, I’d probably try a Classic and Fried Chicken as well as order probably 5 if so.

Fries

Saving the calories today, getting plenty of carbs from 3 buns.  They look like pretty typical fries.  It should be noted for those of you out there that prefer them though, Aut Aut offers sweet potato fries.

Overall

I’m generally not a sliders guy, but these certainly were fun to try a sampling of many flavors.  Can recommend if you like sliders, or like the idea of trying a bunch of different flavors.

Mr. Blanco’s – (Cuauhtémoc)

Ordered: 8/30/2021 – second dinner; may as well knock out the other sliders I have seen people mention.  I only ordered 2 sliders, with tip it was 125.  A combo of 3 with tots and a pop is 231 before delivery or tip.

Vibe

Your place!  Have walked by this location a few times; eat on the street there or take away, I took a late night Uber Eats.  They aren’t delivery only however.

Burgers

Classic slider, just American cheese and onions.  They also provide mayo, ketchup, and mustard.

This is an excuse more or less just to eat some cheesy bread.  The patty was just along for the ride; although unfortunately I had a unenjoyable amount of gristle to pick out as well.  So it doesn’t seem like the best meat supplier.

Fries

No fries, ate enough calories at my regular dinner that I probably shouldn’t have picked up these fellas, but I have a long list to go through.  Notably Mr. Blanco’s has tater tots though!

Overall

These are reasonably popular, although I don’t really see why.  Drunk late night standing outside the place I can maybe see, but during the normal day, or with other delivery options, I just don’t find them very enticing at all.  I think these had the most gristle of any burger I had on this page.

Tacos Al Carbon 100% Carnivoro – (Cuauhtémoc)

Visited: 8/30/2021 – lunch; arrachera burger combo with fries and pop, 110 MXN.

Vibe

Street taco stand, I didn’t grab any good pic, you’ll find a better one outside from google, although it’s not a stand you are going to have a hard time finding.

Burger

I got the with arrachera burger with lettuce, some kind of sauce, not sure which cheese, carmalized onions, ketchup, mustard, iirc mayo as well.  The burger was a frozen patty, grilled over charcoal right in front of you on the counter.  Overall it was a good burger; what it really reminded me of was a standard backyard burger or one I’d have at a backyard party.

Fries

My Spanish is not great; I thought he said he would not have fries for an hour for some reason.  Nonetheless out they came, I think from a little shop across the street that this stand also uses, although at present no seating or anything there.  They look pretty normal although they were better salted than most I’ve had recently and I enjoyed them.

Taco

He has a variety of different tacos as well – arrachera, chistorra, panceta, etc.  This is the rib eye taco, which was quite good…  I am really interested in trying the others!

Overall

The burger was ok, but I am more enticed by the idea of returning here again to try one of each of all the more prime tacos that are available.

Burger –  Round 2

I was advised to go back to this location to try the rib eye burger (99).  I returned 9/24 for a dinner burger.  A few types in action, mine being the bottom right.

It was dressed similarly.  Although much larger at 250g; it comes with gouda and some other kind of cheese.

It was a good burger and better than the arrachera one; I will note that he cooks all the burgers pretty well, so make sure to tell him at the beginning if you’d like something medium instead of well!  This burger is definitely worth the upgrade; I think the only decision to make here is whether you want to get fries or save that space and calories to try out some of the different tacos offered instead.

Chicago Bernie’s Beef Bike – (Cuauhtémoc)

Visited: 8/30/2021 – dinner; double cheeseburger (110) with Nashville fries (55), w/15% tip would be 190.

Vibe

Nice street storefront with a Chicago vibe as the owner is from Chicago.  I’m from the area as well.  See that white door under the light in the back?  That’s the bathroom, and the door is practically half a door.  Never saw one so skinny, at least until seeing one again later that night…  I walked by this place on another burger mission before, and could even smell delicious things coming through my mask.  So I was looking forward to trying them out.

Burger

I got the double cheeseburger; your choice of Swiss, American, or manchego cheese.  I think American is typically the right answer here folks.  You can ask for it spicy (perhaps next time) – I did not even decipher that until reviewing the menu just now.  I’m not sure what all was in it aside from the obvious lettuce here; I can tell you it was a bit messy, and I thought I received a triple cheeseburger given all the meat.  There is one on the menu, and keep in mind, that must be one seriously sized burger if you go to order it.  Per their instagram their italian beef looks quite good as well.  This was a very meaty cheesy guy.  The beef had perfect texture and overall this was a very satisfying burger.  Definitely going on the recommended list.

Fries

I was curious what the Nashville was; seems to basically be cajun seasoned fries.  Good batch and complimented the burger well.

Overall

This is a great burger and weighs in with a good price as well.  I can happily recommend this place and am looking forward to visiting them again once I complete this list.  This is a place where I really don’t know how it is so under the radar of any lists on travel or blog sites, and even has a fairly low number of reviews; if you’re reading this article, you should be checking this place out.

La Burguesa – (Roma Norte)

Visited: 8/30/2021 – dinner round two; meant to try a Mexican stand, but have failed 3 times to locate it.  Perhaps a covid victim.  Ended up at La Burguesa.  Tio Sam burger and shoestring fries (200); 230 MNX with 15% tip.

Vibe

As the prior day ended up being slider day, this one ended up being tiny half-door bathroom day.  Except this one was also under a staircase and they crammed the sink inside rather than outside.  Keep this in mind if you’re on the larger side of my burger loving friends!  Indoor/outdoor seating and a little bigger indoor area than some of the other standard street storefront places I’ve been eating.

Burger

The Tio Sam is a cheddar cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, and bacon.  It was decent, but a pretty standard burger to me.  The bacon was pretty tough, eg. rather than bite through it, you’re a lot more likely to just tear out the whole piece from the sandwich.  The burger is not enticing me to come back though.  Pickles and jalapeños provided as well, which made it a bit more interesting.

Fries

I wasn’t going to try any fries, but then saw the shoestring ones; so I had to give them ago.  I was expecting something along the lines of Steak ‘n Shake for you Americans.  Although these ended up being more like the ones in chip variety packs I had growing up, as they were more like crunchy chips type shoestring fries vs. any with soft potato inside.  They were fairly awkward to eat as well; like it was just a big delicate crunchy mass, and pieces of mass you would take out would inevitably fall apart in various ways.  The best thing to do with these would be to put them in your burger, which is also how one of the burgers comes.

Overall

While this place shows up on a lot of top lists, I did not find it all that interesting.  Give it a go and let me know what you think; it’s not something I’ll be holding up as a must try myself, and didn’t find the burger to be matching the reputation.

Sukka Burger – (Cuauhtémoc)

Visited: 9/1/2021 – lunch; cheeseburger with keto bread + fries + bottled water, combo 200 MXN.

Vibe

One of the many spots on Río Lerma.  Indoor and outdoor seating, rainy day for me.  They bill this place as a healthier burger option; they do have many options for vegans, vegetarians, and keto; some compatible desserts as well.

Burger

Beef, quinoa (didn’t notice), caramelized onion, mozzarella cheese, lettuce, pickles, homemade ketchup and sukka dip (spicy house dressing made with mayonnaise) – I also asked for this on the keto bun.  Bun was great.  I’d largely take a keto option most anywhere I went; not because I’m keto, but because they tend to be lower calorie and higher protein as well.  Enjoyed the burger, but it is not going to stand out on this list.

Fries

These were well salted with that red fry salt and came with a tasty dip.  I don’t think these were actually fried, but seemed like they might have been baked?  Which probably saves you 50-100 calories realistically.  Maybe it would take too long but I’d prefer air fried if possible.  Good fries, although keep in mind they are not going to be your typical fried cronchy bois.

Overall

While the burger doesn’t exactly have me running to come back, this is actually a great place for a healthier burger option.  So watching calories, on a diet, looking to enjoy something on a cut, still have fries, looking for a non-meat patty, or keto bread, etc; this place is a great option to look at.  It probably has the healthiest execution of a burger and fries on this page.

Bodegga Deli – (Hipódromo)

Visited: 9/1/2021 – dinner; Wagyu burger + fries (210) + pop (35); w/15% tip, 281 MXN.

Vibe

Deli spot with indoor and outdoor seating, nice looking place.

Burger

I had the Wagyu burger.  Onion bacon jelly, white cheddar, burger sauce, and yuzu pickles.  It was a satisfying burger.  Although I think I’d try some other menu items if I visit again, particularly the reuben.

Fries

Good crunch, solid fries.

Overall

This burger was good and I can recommend it; although on a subsequent visit I would like to try the reuben.

Parker & Lenox – (Juárez)

Visited: 9/1/2021 – dinner 2; 150 cover charge for live band.  I had the juicy lucy (210) which comes with fries, and a beer (95), w/15% tip, 150 entry and 350 food for 500 total.

Vibe

Cool place, and yet another one of those skinny half doors, and this time to get in to the actual main restaurant area.  Plenty of better pics that mine online.  Chill place if you like to hang out and enjoy the live jazz, although loud enough it will be difficult for you to have a conversation out with friends or on a date or something.

Burger

I ordered the juicy lucy.  175g, topped with provolone cheese and roasted pepper dressing, served with paprika fries and curried pickled cauliflower.  In a former job, I had a sales territory in Minnesota, often going to Minneapolis where the juicy lucy originated from.  This is not actually a juicy lucy.  In a juicy lucy, the cheese is inside the burger; thus the whole reason for the name.  This is just a cheeseburger.  That being said, it was a pretty good one.  Texture of the meat was great, was cooked medium as well.  I also quite liked the sauce.

Fries

Pretty standard, good fries.

Overall

This was a good burger; although on a subsequent visit I might try something else from the menu for some variety.  This place has a cover charge and a live band to keep in mind as well.

Beefbar Mexico – (Anzures)

Visited: 9/2/2021 – lunch; white classic burger with fries (385) and a pop (55), w/15% tip: 506 MXN.

Vibe

This is definitely a cool space and place, you can view more pictures of it on google.  Pretty swanky, would be a good date place.

Starter

An included starter of some nice warm bread, and salty crunchy delicious serrano ham.

Burger

Black Angus beef (180g), not sure what kind of cheese.  They are playing it cool on the menu and not actually telling you much of what is on this burger.  I didn’t notice that enough to go in and take an inventory, nonetheless it includes lettuce, some crispy bacon, and some fried onions.  So a great crunch texture combination with a nice crumbly and great tasting patty.  Unlike the La Burguesa burger where catching the bacon would result in you ripping the whole thing out, here you just crunched through and enjoyed.  There were enough fried onions to know they were there and enjoy them, although the burger was clearly the star of the show.  This is in contrast to the Moy’s burger where the onions and cheese were the first class citizens.  Great burger.

I will also note they also have a “Big K” Kobe & Angus burger with a black bun and truffle dressing – for 720 MXN.  I typically would not every order something like this, but for the sake of this article, hey… may need to give it a go.

Fries

Nice standard fries; this might look small, but I found it was a good ratio with the burger.  Perhaps I self-ration so that I tend to finish both at the same time…  the dijon mustard (?) was a nice option.

Overall

Great overall experience here and a solid burger.  Cost prohibitive for me to put regularly into my schedule but definitely enjoyed the lunch.  For article research purposes I may need to return just to try out the Big K pricey boi.

Burger –  Round 2

Went back 9/29 for lunch, and to try the Big K – Kobe & Angus patty.  180g black bun with truffle mayo; 720 for the burger, +57 water, w/10% tip: 855 MXN.

I asked for it medium; it actually came pretty medium rare at least.  It’s the most I’ve enjoyed a burger this rare, and overall it was a great burger.  Not nearly the looker as many on this page, but it was delicious, the truffle mayo, patty, and bun all came together really well for an outstanding burger; definitely going to the top tier of this list.

Looks a bit like a meat macaroon.

Los Pelonchas – (Torre Blanca)

Ordered: 9/2/2021 – dinner; cabroncita burger (170) + fries (80), 250; + delivery and tip, 309 MXN.

Vibe

I ordered from here on Uber Eats.  I thought it was further away and it also goes through some areas I was not familiar with and haven’t visited yet; ultimately I should have probably just gone for a walk on a Saturday when I could do a long one while it’s still light out.  Nonetheless, I discovered too late that it wasn’t that far, after I had already ordered.  These guys packed the burger well; it came from a bit away, but I did not even need to try and warm things up.  Nice job.

Burger

Cabroncita burger (200 g) “Angus beef, natural pineapple, bacon, and goat cheese.”  These guys have a lot of interesting looking burgers on their page, and some insanely large ones.  Looking forward to this one’s arrival and flavor combo.

Note the burger obviously has other stuff on it as well, lettuce and red onions in the least.  The burger was pretty good, although not having me ready to order one again and that is probably mostly me enjoying goat cheese.  Other options would be worth exploring, although I would consider these largely toppings based burgers, patty was just ok.

Fries

Gajo Diablo – 250g potato wedges “bathed in hot buffalo sauce, Cholula, habanero, and dry chili. With blue cheese dressing.”  Sounds pretty intriguing as well!  Ordered!

The fries/potato wedges probably left crunchy, although sadly did not make it all the way to my place like that.  Per the description I thought they would be spicy, and have a blue cheese dip – they were actually pretty normal, and had a spicy dip.  These were ok, but I was really hoping for spicy fries with a cool dip.

Overall

Toppings based burgers to keep in mind; also probably better off if you are able to go there in person.  Not a place that has me all that interested in trying them again when I have a lot of known good options now though.

Kitchen 6 – (Condesa)

Ordered: 9/3/2021 – lunch; pub burger (200) + fries (77), + pop (35); with 10% tip, 343 MXN.

Vibe

Indoor/outdoor corner restaurant in a nice area; forgot to snap a pic but you can see them on google.  Here’s one from their instagram.

Burger

Pub burger – 160g, bbq pulled pork, cheddar cheese, lettuce, and mesquite mayonnaise.  Looks more impressive than it was; although it would have been a lot better simply cooking the patty correctly.  I wasn’t sure what the odd/unexpected taste was to me at first, then figured out it was simply the patty being burnt.  It was not simply charred, it was burnt, and that overwhelmed and threw off the rest of the flavors.  I try to avoid the added sugar and masking of everything else in a burger with bbq, although this is the first (possibly last) you’ll see on the page, as I was curious to try a bbq pork burger.  What was on there tasted decent, but there was actually very little of it.

Fries

Half order of garlic parmesan fries; these were pretty good.  Brought out a bit before the burger, although the burger still came out fast enough; not the first time, and I don’t really understand why anyone would really bring the fries before the burger is ready, unless they are an obvious table appetizer or something.  In any case, good fries.

Overall

Pretty disappointing given the overall cost here; so not somewhere I can recommend given other known good options at the same price point or less.

Grizzly Burger and Beer – (San Rafael)

Ordered: 9/3/2021 – dinner; oso puerco (125) + upgrade to waffle fries (+10), + pop (25); with 15% tip, 184 MXN.

Vibe

Oops forgot a pic again.  Where has my mind gone?  No public space photos from them so I’ll let you go take a look.

Burger

I had the oso puerco (pig bear); 180g beef, “honey mustard dressing, mozzarella cheese, bacon, tomatoes with herbs, pickles, Italian lettuce” – it also came with jalapeños on the side if you wanted to add some kick, which I did a bit.  The burger was pretty juicy and cooked medium, bacon nice and crunchy and easy to break through and enjoy in many a bite.  Overall a good burger, some of the others looked interesting too.

Fries

For whatever reason I like the extra surface and cronch of waffle fries, so I did the +10 upcharge for these guys.  A fairly small basket, but given my burger and fry intake recently that is ok.  Really I don’t need a ton and prefer this over my lack of self-control where I will eat everything.  Note regular fries were included with the burger and the combo is pretty cheap here compared to many.  In any case, these were ok – a bit overdone.

Overall

Enjoyed the burger I had and wouldn’t mind trying some others on this menu either, so can definitely recommend you giving it a go.

Havre 77 – (Juárez)

Visited: 9/4/2021 – lunch; original burger (390) + pop (45), w/15% tip: 500.

Vibe

This is actually a French restaurant.  Cool place.  It has a reputation for, unsurprisingly, some great French onion soup.  Which we will be ignoring today.  I went with a burger buddy Roi to try this place out.

Burger

Well, simple choice here.  You have one burger option, and should expect that this place has some good cheese.  The burger on instagram is described as French Onion Soup Burger and the menu (google photos) says hamburgues de filet de boeuf (beef tenderloin burger?) – although it was not actually on the menu when we were there, but a list on a board the server carried around of what was also available.

The burger was quite juicy and good; mine was cooked medium and Roi asked for one quite rare and was pleased with the results.  Nice patty with good texture and consistency as well; easy recommendation.

Fries

Some nice garlic parmesan fries.

Overall

A nice burger and quite a bit different than most.  Most similar to Eloise mushroom burger I suppose; although a more convenient walk accessible location for those generally staying in Polanco/Roma/Condesa areas.  Definitely a good option to try.

Eat Waldo’s – (Polanco)

Visited: 9/4/2021 – dinner; cheeseburger: 129 MXN.

Vibe

Cool happening plaza area in Polanco, although Eat Waldo’s itself is just this lil window.  4.8 on google after 127 reviews – that’s really quite good.  It was fairly busy on a Saturday evening around 6:30, yet no one was at the window, and no one was coming either; it took me a bit of time to notice the bell to ring to get some service.  I would say it wasn’t exactly obviously placed, and as I was eating a girl came up to order something and similarly missed it until I pointed it out.

Burger

Certainly not as lovely as the pictures.  Burger sauce, tomato, and cheddar.  I liked the sauce; nice cheese and bun combo but the patty was unexciting and had some gristle at that.  If you wanted a quick hit burger and were right here I guess it is ok, really no idea how the google ratings are so high.

Fries

Didn’t try these out.

Overall

I think these are overrated and not worth the cost; would advise opting for elsewhere to satisfy your burger cravings.

Sliders Burger Shop – (Polanco)

Visited: 9/4/2021 – dinner 2; burger shop burger (160) + curly fries (38) + pop (45), w/10% tip: 267.

Vibe

Nice open space among a busy area of other places to eat in Polanco.

Burger

I thought this place just had sliders; although when I got there, saw the menu had plenty of other choices and interesting sounding burgers, including normal sized ones.  I chose the Burger Shop – one could further choose 200 or 300g of beef, as well as request doneness; I asked for medium, got around a medium well.  The description is: roquefort (bleu) cheese, A1 sauce, fried onion, and pickles.  It had been a while since I had some blue cheese and I do like fried onions.  The pic looks good but there were some execution problems here.

The patty was decently cooked, although the fried onions alone had a bit of a weird aftertaste to me and were also just kind of warm-ish.  They felt like they had been sitting around a while, and that the oil they were fried in was well past due for a change.  I should probably not choose any bleu cheese burgers as I like the taste and it is a pretty overwhelming in a burger, and easy to mask other flaws.  In any case I certainly enjoyed the cheese; the A1 wasn’t really for me though.  Not something I typically have, especially in a burger, and it was also heavily located in part of the burger and not there in other parts.  The patty was ok and the burger had promise, but overall the execution of it and the fries were below expectations.

Fries

Hard to go wrong with curly fries, I generally prefer them – but these ones were lukewarm.  Thus far everything seems to have been pretty freshly dropped fries for me here in Mexico City, but these didn’t seem to be.

Overall

Based on my burger buddy Roi’s feedback and believing my own experience to be an unlucky visit, I think this place is still worth checking out for anyone exploring burger joints, so will list it in my base recommendation tier.

Burger Bar Joint – (Roma Norte)

Visited: 9/4/2021 – dinner 1; bbj burger w/waffle fries (152) + pop (42), w/10% tip: 213 MXN.

Vibe

Pretty big bar with outdoor and indoor seating as well as a second level.  Fairly loud.

Burger

200g burger, bbq sauce, lettuce, tomato, and white onions.  This was quite a thick patty, I think over an inch tall at the center.  It was fine, although there was something about the consistency and texture of it that seemed a little off to me.  I’m not sure how to describe it, but I will say “sausagey” – let me know what you think if you try it.  Was a bit dry for such a big one, I asked for it medium but it was a lot closer to well done.  Too dense?  Not enough fat?  Ok burger but didn’t really get me excited to come back.

Fries

Included waffle fries; they were alright, although a bit lukewarm and didn’t seem like they had just popped out.  Although the probably should have since the place was pretty busy?

Overall

I am curious what anyone thinks who tries this place out; the price isn’t too bad for what you get compared to some other options I guess, but the patty just doesn’t seem right to me and I’d rather visit elsewhere.

Stack.mx – (Polanco)

Ordered: 9/5/2021 – dinner 2; double cheeseburger (160) + cajun fries (55) + corn stack (86) + delivery and tip = 349 MXN.

Vibe

Stack is delivery only.  I like their packaging, although it would be better to have foil or something around them to keep them warm.  A+ for marketing but B- for functionality, particularly of somewhere that is delivery only.  The bag was also cool.

Burger

Pretty solid double cheeseburger; American cheese, lettuce, tomato, and stack sauce.  A bit lukewarm due to the packaging and delivery; I worry about trying to nuke these and warm them back up, a particularly bad idea for the lettuce.  Good flavor, I think I may be biased toward those with American cheese.  I think I would have enjoyed this a lot more having it fresh after sitting down somewhere.

Fries

Pretty standard fries, nothing to write home about.

Corn

Elotes seasoned with lemon pepper, and some fry sauce.  These were pretty good, I would take them over the fries no problem.

Overall

I did enjoy the burger, and the corn; this is a decent delivery option to explore; note they are a dark kitchen and delivery only.

The Cheesecake Factory – (Piedad Narvarte)

Visited: 9/6/2021 – lunch; Americana burger (235) + cheeseburger spring rolls (135) + pop (55), w/15% tip: 489.

Vibe

The standard Cheesecake Factory.  Known for quite a large menu with a large variety of options and generous portions; generally a pretty good place I think.

Fries, er Cheeseburger Spring Rolls Appetizer

Roi recommended I try this place out for a burger and had me curious about this dish.  They were pretty good, although you should probably split them with a friend!

Burger

I typically have a salmon option on my occasional visits here.  They had some good looking burger options.  I went with the Americana – American and cheddar cheese, crispy potato straws, lettuce, tomato, caramelized onions, pickles, and secret sauce.  I asked for the burger to be medium, it was medium well.  The sauce was good and the toppings all together were great on it; the burger itself was definitely not the star but along for the ride with everything else.  Overall it was a good burger.  I got the salad instead of fries to try reduce the calories I blew through with the appetizer.

Overall

I’m more likely to try a salmon option on a subsequent return here.  I don’t think you’ll be unhappy with the burger here, but you can get this burger internationally at many a place, so best to try a CDMX specific burger or just have some Mexican food instead.

The Food Box – (Roma Norte)

Visited: 9/6/2021 – dinner; King James burger w/fries (199) + cheese balls (139) + pop (39), w/10% tip: 415.

Vibe

Oops forgot pics – check out the google maps.

Cheese Balls

I already had some salad at lunch, and these looked too good on the menu to resist…  so I tried them out.  Cheddar with fried breading and fry sauce.  10 pieces, although I ate 5, and you shouldn’t order these without 2 or 3 friends to split them; especially since the burger comes with fries!

Burger

What is that?  Is that apple?  Why, yes it is!  Look at that, salad at lunch, fruit at dinner, quite a healthy day today with such a balanced and nutritious set of meals.  There are a lot of pretty interesting and good looking burger options here to choose from.  The menu itself is quite well done and makes everything look amazing.  Whoever designed it did extremely well.  The King James includes: meat marinated with serrano, ginger, soy, and honey; sliced apple, smoked bacon, fried onions, chipotle mayo, homemade rustic ketchup with cherry tomatoes and chilis, cheddar & chihuahua cheese and spinach.  This burger is a hot mess as it contains a lot of stuff.  There was plenty of bacon, and in big thick cuts at that.  The burger packed some heat and it was nice to mix it up with the crisp sweetness of the apple as well.  The patty texture was great and overall this was quite a tasty burger.

Fries

Nothing too wild here, just some standard good fries.

Overall

There’s a lot of attractive looking option on their menu, and this burger was pretty solid.  I can definitely give a recommendation for trying this place out and am looking forward to sampling one of their other options in the future as well.

Hamburguesas LEO’S – (Nápoles)

Ordered: 9/7/2021 – lunch; double cheeseburger (145) + jalapeño poppers (120), w/20 tip: 285.  Mexico City is quite rainy now, and I’m lacking easily walkable places that are new to do a lunch that fit into my current work schedule.  So yet another Uber Eats.

Vibe

Back to the kitchen, or my desk and computer.

Burger

This was a place with a further walk than most (at least 6.2km) – which really I don’t mind, but trying to get through this list, it’s going to be simpler to just pop through an order.  Google reviews heavy on burger positivity.  Worth it?  No need to get into the toppings; sadly just kind of a no.  These patties are some kind of frozen kind and just not that great.  The more rubbery kind of consistency and cheap seeming meat; the kind of patty itself that I think lends itself to coming off a bit better/being a necessity to be charred, which these weren’t.  It’s just kind of a non-starter in the context of a best burger list though.

Jalapeño Poppers

Cheesy fried heat with some ranch?  Yes please, I mean hard to go wrong with these.  They were quite delicious.

Overall

This place looks like it has some interesting taco options.  I would not get a burger here.

iT Burgers – (Roma Norte)

Visited: 9/7/2021 – dinner; classic burger (125) + fries (45) + water (30), w/10% tip: 220.

Vibe

Nice little street storefront space, I ate inside.

Burger

The classic cheeseburger includes American cheese, lettuce, tomato, and iT sauce.  They also make their own buns.  It was a nice bun and a good burger.  I wasn’t asked how it was to be cooked (110g patty) but it had some redness in it as well.  While I enjoyed iT, and it was definitely better than many on this list, it also was maybe a bit too simple; I don’t think you would regret adding the bacon option.  It was a nice simple burger.

Fries

Nice fresh really good tasty fries.

Overall

This place is worth trying out, although I would most certainly add some bacon on a subsequent visit.

Soul la Roma – (Roma Norte)

Visited: 9/7/2021 – dinner #2; Soul burger + fries (195) + water (28), w/15% tip: 256.

Vibe

Cool space with indoor and outdoor seating areas.  This is at night, after experiencing my first earthquake, and sitting near a red neon sign; so unfortunately the burger pics are going to be quite tinted and hard to see.  Apologies!  Cool space though.  Neat BMW bike right by this table.

Burger

The Soul is a burger with “lots of bacon,” lettuce, tomato, and habanero mayonnaise.  It initially didn’t come out with any bacon, but as I went to take some pics, I think the manager was the one that realized it, took it back, and got the bacon.  Not sure if this is the normal large amount or an apology amount of bacon.  This was thin and crunchy bacon, I’ll note that on some of their other burgers they also have thick cut pieces of bacon.  Good patty and combo of ingredients overall, although I suspect that I might enjoy some of the other burgers more.  I wasn’t feeling super cheesy, but from the pics and videos where they literally pour the melted cheese onto it, that Sauber is calling my name for a return trip.  Definitely enjoyed this one though.

Fries

Some pretty standard fries.  They had some kind of tasty mayo.  They also provided mustard, ketchup, and some spicy oil stuff for the burger/fries/whatever your heart desired as well.

Overall

There’s multiple good looking options on the menu; I had a good experience and will be back here to try out some of the other burgers.  The Sauber burger does look like a must try, and it would be nice to score and split some of their appetizers as well.

Chubbies Burger – (Roma Sur)

Ordered: 9/8/2021 – lunch; double cheeseburger special, with onion smash and fries (229) + 16 driver tip, 250 total.

Vibe

Chubbies has a spot to sit down in their Calveria location apparently, but not their other locations.  I don’t have the time to make the walk and made an order online through their delivery platform (softrestaurant).  So the vibe is once again likely your room or kitchen.  I do like their packaging.

Burger

There is a base cheeseburger, the chubbies burger adds a garlic sauce, and the special adds a bacon jam.  It can also be ordered with “onion smash” where the patty gets cooked with onion so it caramelizes.  This was a tasty burger, good amount of beef vs. cheese and bun ratio with the double too, plenty of meat, and all tasty flavors.  It also came with some sweet pickles and some kind of pretty spicy peppers; more power to you if you could fill up your burger with them, I just had lil bits in combination with everything else.  It was very good, and I couldn’t think about how much better this all would have been had I ventured out to their location and had it completely fresh as well.  I got delivery to Anzures from Roma Sur, but the Claveria is 4.5k; which I find a walkable distance on a day where I have the time, and can at least burn off some of all the food I am going to eat.  This burger is definitely worth a try, and certainly the best delivery one I’ve had.  The burger was packaged in a foil wrap to keep it warm; it was good enough for me to eat straight away, although there’s nothing on it that I think would have a problem with a short microwave cook as well.

Fries

I’m not sure if fries can really survive delivery all that well, so it’s probably not too fair to be all that critical of them.  They were good, although could have used a nuke in the microwave (although I didn’t bother) and were also a bit soft.  I think I’d prefer a side more delivery friendly.  I would personally be up for something a little healthier as well.  Eg. some version of elotes.

Overall

This burger has a good sweet and savory combo, and is definitely among the best of the delivery options available.  I think it would be even better if you go to pick it up and enjoy it fresh out of the kitchen.

Balkan Grill – (Narvarte Poniente)

Visited: 9/8/2021 – dinner; smoked bacon cheeseburger (105), with salad (20) and water (20), w/15% tip, 167 total.  One of the cheaper meals on this page.

Vibe

Cool space with indoor and outdoor seating along a main road.  I don’t know the story, but the owner is surely from one of these Balkan states.

Burger

I didn’t realize it at the time, but the way their burgers work, it appears the balkan classics would contain a regular beef patty, but the premium are all versions of ground meat formed around a gouda cheese stuffing.  I tried the smoked bacon one.  What I ended up discovering is that I prefer my bacon distinct and on top of the burger.  The patty itself wasn’t my favorite consistency; the flavor was alright.  The bun is nice and seems homemade.  I wonder if I would have simply liked a classic burger more.  This burger wouldn’t have me coming back, although I am curious about trying some of the Balkan traditional dishes.  This was a bit of a long walk from my place, about 7km.

Fries, er…  Salad

Tried saving some calories; side salad was the same cost as fries, and I went for the salad instead.  It was a pretty good simple side salad.  Curious about the fries, but no regrets.

Overall

If I return here, it will be to try out some of the Balkan food options rather than have another burger.

Sonora Grill Prime – (Polanco)

Visited: 9/8/2021 – second dinner; Cid Wellington cheeseburger with fries (395), + pop (55), w/15% tip, 518 total.

Vibe

Oops, forgot to take a pic again.  Nice place but loud; I was near the DJ guy and wondering if he was literally doing anything.   It seemed like a running list of videos and music, not even from youtube though.  This is a chain of locations, although I am unclear on what the difference is between the regular and Prime; perhaps some fancier cuts of meat are available in the latter.  In either case, I went for a normal burger, which they stopped selling.  All they had was the baked Cid Wellington one, so I tried it.

Chips

Nicely before the order I arrived, I did have the opportunity to try some table chips with beans and many a type of salsa.

Burger

It was kind of nice having this shell to keep in what would largely be a messy burger.  It is also brought out with a syringe full of cheese, for them to give you a show and inject into the burger.  Although I find that a little silly.  The burger itself was not something I would recommend.  The breading didn’t have much taste to it, the onions had a pretty present and strong flavor although how they were prepared I did not necessarily enjoy, perhaps that was mushrooms or pâté with it and that not being my thing?  Not sure all what was actually in there.  The patty was ok; the best part about it all was they used some well salted and tasty bacon.  This burger wouldn’t have me coming back though.

Fries

Kind of sad that for a solo table and a pricey place that the fries came out so meh.  Warm-ish but the big problem was they were soft, not a fan.  Maybe hard to time them right with the Wellington, I don’t know.  Disappointing though.

Overall

There’s a lot of good looking menu options here; should I return, I’ll be exploring some of them rather than the burger.

La Inmaculada – (Polanco)

Visited: 9/9/2021 – lunch; cheeseburger (120), + fries (40) + water; w/5% tip, 168 total.

Vibe

I walked by on here (closed) on the way to Sonora last night, and figured I would give it a go.  Indoor/outdoor seating.

Burger

Pretty solid cheeseburger; I was satisfied by it for a lunch, although at dinner I would likely order the double; also curious to try the American option they have.  Perhaps in the future I’ll end up trying both.  The pickles were pretty standard with a little bit of sweetness.  Otherwise I had the burger as-is without anything additional.  It was a good quick burger and a nice option if in the area and looking to get a decent one somewhat inexpensively, can recommend.

Fries

They were not as generously salted, although overall the size and shape was really giving me some McDonald’s vibes, and they are probably the closest thing to them I’ve had on this list.  Good standard fries.

Overall

This place was decent; it is also located fairly close to my house and my home WeWork location.  Ok spot but nothing I would seek out.

Blend Home Burgers – (Condesa)

Visited: 9/9/2021 – dinner; blend burger combo with fries and water, 90 MXN.

Vibe

Small spot with a couple places to sit and a small kitchen where they are primarily delivering orders online from.  I found them on Uber Eats.

Burger

The blend burger is: homemade potato bread bun, 100g beef, American cheese, onion, tomato, pickles, and blend dressing.  I enjoyed the bun a lot.  Good burger sauce; if hungry I would definitely go for an additional patty and/or bacon.  I enjoyed this burger, and at this price point, the combo is looking like the best value deal on this page.

Fries

Some standard fries; a melted cheese dip and habanero dressing were also provided.  The latter was a real kicker, probably should have tried some of it in my burger.  Occasionally did a fry in it, it was pretty powerful stuff.  The fries were extra crunchy; perhaps slightly overdone, although maybe that is on purpose so that they will be crunchy upon delivery as well, which is a challenge.

Overall

At only 90 MXN this is certainly one of the better value meal options on this page!  On a subsequent visit I would try a double; ideally on site again for something fresh out of the kitchen.

The Capital Grille – (Juárez)

Visited: 9/9/2021 – dinner 2; signature burger with fries (390), half order truffled mac ‘n cheese (183), water (50), w/15% tip: 716 MXN.  Should I be eating this much food, this late, after another cheeseburger?  Most definitely not, but I did what I did.

Vibe

This is a nice steak house chain, which appears to have two locations in Mexico.  I sat on the terrace which is overlooking the Paseo de la Reforma as well, which is cool.  Swanky place.  Good service.  While I didn’t order from nor sit at the bar, the bartender seemed really cool.

Bread

Lots of table bread of various types; and I ate most of it.  Yet another reason I should have not ordered the mac and cheese, but hey.  The bread was delicious, the butter was delicious, and I certainly ate all of it.  Hard for me to even pick a favorite.

Burger

I cut this guy in half before attempting to forklift it in.  255g, 21 day aged beef with cheese, bacon, pickles, lettuce, tomato, and some pickled red onion.  I asked for it medium, perhaps I’d try medium rare next time.  In any case, this was a delicious burger.  Great bacon on it too.  I think the most well seasoned burger I had as well.  I really enjoyed it, they had additional options to try as well.

Fries

The burger came with their truffle fries; do these use real truffle or the lab oil stuff?  I don’t know.  I can’t say I really noticed or identified any special taste there as well.  In any case, good fries as an accompaniment.

Mac

So, this is actually a lobster mac and cheese as well, which I didn’t notice until it came.  I was going to try and eat half and save the rest for the next day, but I lack the self-control and responsibility for that I guess.  I ate around 2/3 and paused for a minute to reflect on life, then finished it off.  It was quite delicious and I can definitely recommend.

Overall

I haven’t been to one of these for a long time; a dinner with a coworker long ago.  This chain is certainly not unique to Mexico City, but I really enjoyed the overall experience and the burger here as well.  Considering the burger cost the same as the Sonora Grill one, the difference in the burger and overall experience here was really quite substantial!

Burger Strasse – (Polanco)

Visited: 9/10/2021 – lunch; meister burger combo with fries and water, 262 MXN.

Vibe

Nice spot on the East side of Polanco, near to me in Anzures.  Google maps location seems to be slightly off, but it’s right across from this Asaderos grill and Hamburguesas HM on Euler.

Burger

The Meister has smoked bacon, strasse sauce, cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, caramelized onions, and mayo.  The patty was alright; I recall particularly enjoying the bun.  Good flavor combo overall.  A solid option and one I can recommend trying out.

Fries

Some standard skinnier fries.  Could have used a little more salt for me.  Bonus onion rings to sample, pretty tasty with some good dipping sauce.

Overall

Located well for me from home; a good burger option, likely to end up as a lunch or dinner some time again.  Worth a visit.

Valhalla CDMX – (Del Valle Norte)

Visited: 9/11/2021 – lunch; Valkyrie burger combo with fries 110, w/10% tip 121 MXN.

Vibe

Small kitchen/storefront with a couple outdoor spots for sitting/eating.  You’ll only be eating outside.

Burger

This was just a simple no nonsense patty and burger.  It was decent, although I would advise opting for bacon to make it a bit more interesting at that.  Satisfying but nothing outstanding to me.

Fries

I don’t recall if anything on the menu indicated it, but I think these were vinegar fries.  Was kind of nice to have something a little different, although vinegar is a pretty strong presence, and not one that I would do often and/or would do pretty lightly. If you’re a big fan of vinegar chips (or crisps) I’m sure you’ll really like these.

Overall

This place is a bit further South and a decent walk; although it’s not a place that has me eager to do the walk again.  If I tried another burger, I’d at least try one with bacon; I also could not do these fries that often as they had more vinegar than I would prefer.

Proper Burger – (Narvarte Poniente)

Visited: 9/11/2021 – second lunch; Chipotluda burger (107) with fries and water (+55), w/10% tip 178 MXN.

Vibe

Nice corner spot with indoor and outdoor seating options.  Lots of different burger options on the menu.

Burger

The Chipotluda was quite the presentation beast.  It has: crispy beet and carrot flakes, lettuce, gratin cheese, tomato, red onion, pickles, and house chipotle dressing.  it looks pretty huge here, but actually compressed down pretty well.  I enjoyed it, it was a good combination of flavors, but it was definitely what I would describe as a topping burger; it was the sum of its parts, and the patty just happened to be one of the parts.  There was nothing special about it at all.  It was a good combo of flavors and enjoyable burger, it’s just that the patty was along for the ride and certainly not the star of the show.

Fries

The fries were served pretty quickly, before the burger.  I guess this is done because hey they are fresh, and maybe you’d like to snack sooner than later?  I would always prefer fry and burger delivery at the same time.  Not many people there so my burger still came out reasonably soon.  The cheese seemed a bit thin, and was kinda cold.  Not a huge fan of that.  Pretty standard fries though, and some nice pickled/spicy peppers.

Overall

I’m generally looking for a burger where the patty is the star and it is not a toppings based burger.  Multiple burgers here look visually interesting, although they are definitely toppings based burgers.  This place might be worth a visit, just don’t expect the patty to be all that interesting.

Connor’s – (Granada)

Visited: 9/11/2021 – dinner; Manhattan blue cheese burger (183) + bacon wrapped fries (101) + glass of water (0), w/10% tip: 312.

Vibe

Connor’s is in a nice food court area of the Miyana mall.  Lots of good looking options both in this open food court area as well as nearby restaurants.  Nice looking menu with multiple enticing burger options.

Burger

I had the Manhattan blue cheeseburger: all the selection of red meat is brisket cut in our kitchen daily; blue cheese, smoked bacon, and chipotle onion.  It also had some kind of crisps (beets?) with it.  I had them with the burger but probably worth just tossing them in it.  The patty was a good base, I felt like slightly too much bread for my tastes, but overall a nice burger with lots of salty crunch available and a smothering of blue cheese.  I will note the flavoring was largely due to the toppings and not burger seasoning.  Much less messy than many of the burgers I’ve had, although not because the patty was overdone or anything.  That does make me wonder how fatty it actually was though.  Overall I enjoyed the burger and I’ll probably be back to try some others.

Fries

With no plans at all, I strangely have a lot of doubles in a row, eg. 2 sliders places, 2 places with skinny doors, 2 places with cheese with fries, etc etc.  Interesting.  This cheese still wasn’t warm, but it was warmer than Proper.  It was also thicker.  It seemed like more proper cheese.  Per the displayed pictures, these bacon wrapped fries might appear light on the bacon – but in actuality they were pretty well covered with it.  The real question is, are they worth the upcharge from standard fries?  I would say not, at least with this particular bacon.

Overall

Enjoyed the burger here and wouldn’t mind trying some more; although I would not add the bacon to the fries in the future.  Ok walk for me plus there is a nice theater in this mall complex, so I’m sure I’ll be having some more meals here in the future as well.

TUCCO – (Condesa)

Visited: 9/11/2021 – second dinner; TUCCO classic burger and fries (165) + corona (40), w/10% tip: 225.

Vibe

Street bar/restaurant spot with indoor and outdoor seating.

Burger

I don’t often end up cutting burgers in half, although I did for this one.  Seasoned beef with secret house recipe, gouda cheese, crispy bacon, and special tucco dressing. I was surprised to see the patty wasn’t so substantial and it was definitely second class along for the ride with everything else here too.  Overall the burger was a good combo of flavors; I liked the bacon quite a lot, but the real star of the show was this bun.  It doesn’t seem to get much highlight or credit on their menu or instagram or anything?  However it is certainly more unique and to me it was the best part.  I believe it is a parmesan bagel?  I wouldn’t go back for the patty, I would go back for the bun lol.  Some other burger options look interesting to try.

Fries

The fries had good flavor; but they were cold.  Easily the coldest of any I had.  I got a ways through the burger before they brought out some dip with a spoon of some spicy mayo stuff, which was pretty tasty with them.

Overall

Not a place that sticks out for me other than that I might give them another chance some time, primarily just to have another paremsan bagel bun though…

Mizrahi Meats Burgers & Steaks – (Hipódromo Condesa)

Visited: 9/12/2021 – lunch; Mizrahi short rib burger (249) + fries (65) + glass of water, w/10% tip: 345.

Vibe

Note these guys can also be found as AM Burgers or am_burgers.  Seems like poor/inconsistent marketing and branding to me though, just making them harder to find.  Eg. they are AM Burgers on Uber Eats, and I’m not sure how quickly you’d find that without me pointing it out.  The place was in kind of a thin corridor with other restaurants and the Mizrahi Meats serving more steak/brisket options.

Burger

For some reason, the menu is titled Sliders for the burgers, but only one option appears to be a set of sliders.  The burger description is: short rib burger, monterey jack cheese, caramelized onions, fried pore (thin green veg?), truffle oil, and tatemado dressing.  I had no idea what the last option was – although from the pic you might be able to tell, it is some kind of Mexican pulled pork type topping here.  All on a pretzel bun.  The base patty was just ok to me.  I enjoyed the overall combo though.  Good burger, I can see myself coming back to try some others.

Fries

Nice fresh above average crunchy fries.  Ketchup and mayo packets available.

Overall

Overall good experience; don’t know how quickly I will be back again, but would happy to drop in here for another visit.

Dante Brasa y Fuego – (Polanco)

Visited: 9/12/2021 – dinner; wagyu burger (490) + mac ‘n cheese (230) + water (65), w/15% tip: 903 MXN.

Vibe

Nice place with a cool vibe.  Not too crowded as I went pretty late on a Sunday night.

Burger

There are 2 burgers on the menu, and both sound pretty good.  The Wagyu is described as: cheddar cheese, truffle, homemade mayonnaise, and chives.  This is one I was advised to try.  It was quite good – nice soft bun and good flavors all around; it was among the best seasoned burgers that I had tried thus far.  I really enjoyed it and would be happy to have it again, and can definitely put it on the tops of my recommendations.

Mac

Nice mac ‘n cheese – no lobster like The Capital Grille above, also I think it is larger; not the half portion I had there.  I enjoyed it, although enjoyed TCGs more and would probably opt to try another side should I return.

Overall

This is a great burger and definitely one I can recommend; however it is a bit cost prohibitive for me to go for any regular frequency.  It’s worth checking out for all the burger lovers out there however.  Overall I actually had a mixed experience due to the service, they didn’t give me the standard free table appetizer, and super weirdly they brought out the dips and condiments for it.  I even asked if something was missing, and it was just weird.  When I mentioned this again later, they basically said you didn’t get it – but don’t worry, we didn’t charge you for it!  But 1. it’s free, 2. it’s included, and 3. the cost of which is surely factored into my bill anyway.

El Gringo Naco – (Polanco)

Visited: 9/13/2021 – lunch; blue cheese burger combo with fries and bottled water (45), w/10% tip: 212.

Vibe

Nice little storefront next to a taco place, note it is slightly off the main street where its address is.

Burger

The blue cheese burger is described as: juicy 5 oz 100% beef stuffed with blue cheese, caramelized onion topping, and blue cheese crumbles.  This was a great burger and I was happy to discover so, as it is pretty near my place and good for a quick lunch run.  The patty was juicy and had a good consistency, everything went well together in the right ratios, and they have a bunch of other appealing ones I would like to try as well.  It was also served with some sharp tangy pickles.

Fries

I was asked how I wanted the fries, although not sure what all the options were – went with paprika and salt, these also had some vinegar too.  Unlike Valhalla, the flavor here of it was a lot more subtle, and these were fries I could eat a lot more frequently as a result.  They were quite good and among my favorites.

Overall

A fairly easy walk from my place in Anzures, and a good experience overall.  Happy to recommend and expect to end up here myself for some future lunches.

Baba – (Polanco)

Ordered: 9/13/2021 – lunch 2; individual combo (199), w/10% tip: 219.

Vibe

Another dark kitchen, ordered on Uber Eats.  I wasn’t planning on trying them out, but somebody had recommended them who also had some other good recommendations.  So here we are trying them out.

Burger

Some simple single patty sliders.  Nothing pretty here, but they were decent.  The patty is nothing to get all that excited about – but certainly better than Mr. Blanco’s, whose popularity I don’t really understand.  What I enjoyed most of this whole meal was the fry sauce and the buns.  They seem something along the line of the King’s Hawaiian rolls?

Fries

The fries were largely soft, not surprising given the distance and delivery.  My delivery person’s mode of transportation said bicycle, although she came with a guy on a motorcycle; they had one stop before me though.  I nuked the whole plate a little bit sans sauce.  The site says special sauce and garlic mayo – I had a hard time telling if I even had two different sauces.  I can say the sauce was really good though, and caused me to eat more soft fries than I would have expected.  The fries are what they are, but the sauces were great.

Overall

These are pretty good for some delivery sliders if you’re into that.  Closest to Mr. Blanco’s but ones I definitely enjoyed more.

El Diez – (Condesa)

Visited: 9/13/2021 – dinner; el diez burger (209) + water (40), w/10% tip: 274.

Vibe

Argentinian place with indoor and outdoor seating.

Burger

I didn’t really notice the bacon, but I guess it was there as per this pic?  I looked for some at 1/4 left and didn’t see any and never tasted any.  It’s not worth going over what was on this burger because it was pretty disappointing, I expected better from a place that was recommended and that also cost this much and was from some kind of Argentinian place.  The patty was the kind of low quality sad meat that feels like it was glued together somehow, although a thicker version than most patties of this type.  Maybe some other things on their menu are worth getting, but absolutely not this.

Fries

Fries were ok I guess, a bit overdone.

Overall

274 MXN is a lot to spend for this; apologies, but a lot of disappointment.

Carajillo – (Polanco)

Visited: 9/13/2021 – dinner 2; MX burger and fries (240) + beer (60), w/15% tip: 345.

Vibe

Cool place, there’s a few of these around and I walked by one in Roma Norte earlier.  Open pretty late.

Starter

Big tortilla with 3 salsas.  The middle one was pretty spicy.  Go for larger breaks and pieces, attempts at small ones will just crumble into sad messes.

Burger

The description of the hamburguesa mx says: rib eye beef with Oaxaca cheese, roasted poblano, chile de arbol dressing, and arugula on huitlacoche bread.  I asked for the burger medium, although is was largely well done.  Still an ok texture but there was not much flavor coming from it, nor the toppings. Not bad, but also not good, I’m sure there are better offerings on menu here.

Fries

The fries were well salted, although pretty lukewarm, definitely not hot.

Overall

There are probably a lot of options here on the menu that are more enjoyable than this burger, which is not at a price point that makes it worth ordering.

Butlers with Fries – (Juárez)

Ordered: 9/14/2021 – lunch; Ché Argentina burger with fries, delivery, and 10%/tip: 203.

Vibe

Another Uber Eats.  In part because I need something quick, but mostly because I seem to have really jacked up my left rear shoulder somehow at Muay Thai.  🙁

Burger

This burger is described as: beef accompanied by onion caramelized in beer, provoleta, and exquisite chimichurri.  It was interesting to have the different flavors, both with the chimichurri and the provoleta cheese.  These guys I believe are in a dark kitchen out of an Italian place.  The patty itself was just ok; it was nice to have something of a different burger, but it did not get me excited to go back and have another either.

Fries

There are options for style of fries; I chose cajun.  The package arrived with the burger surrounded by them, although not much of a large serving.  I’m expecting delivery fries to be soft, but also some of these seemed undercooked.  That or perhaps they are not double fried as well.

Overall

You may have better luck, although I would advise some other delivery options first.

J & GDiana – (Cuauhtémoc)

Visited: 9/15/2021 – lunch; KDB burger (420) + water (90), w/15% tip: 587.

Vibe

The view is from Diana on the 3rd floor of the St. Regis hotel.  J&G is on the 1st floor and currently closed.  I was advised Diana had select menu items; I’ll note the burger menu online looks a little different for J&G although this was clearly marked as a J&G burger.  It is the only beef burger on menu as well.

Burger

The burger is described as: edam cheese, red bell pepper mayo, bbq bacon, grilled onion – obviously it has lettuce and tomato as well.  I ordered it medium, and as is typical when I ask, it was more like medium well to done; I think this one would have been a lot better were it a little less done; that being said, it was a great burger.  The patty was great, it was well seasoned, the bacon and mayo and bbq together were all really good – this burger is not only a serious looker but a serious contender as well.  It was great, and I can highly recommend it.

Fries

I thought the sides were separate and the burger did not come with any with the way the menu is laid out; although I was not charged for the grilled asparagus with lemon zest side I chose.  I guess the sides and price there are just for additional ones?  Anyway, pretending I’m healthy and swapping in the king of vegetables (some debate apparently, with eggplant, but only one of these was actually declared by a king…) – not a ton here but it was tasty.  For your fun fact of the day, some people don’t think asparagus changes the scent of their wiz – the reality is some people due to their genetics are unable to detect this specific smell.  Bet you didn’t expect to be reading about that on this page…

Overall

This was a great burger that I really enjoyed and can highly recommend.

El Punto STK – (Lomas de Sotelo)

Visited: 9/15/2021 – dinner; arrachera burger (80) + water (30), 110 MXN.  Didn’t ask for a tip and I always pay with card.

Vibe

Indoor and outdoor seating and a corner bar type restaurant.

Burger

Description: flank steak (150g) and manchego cheese.  Iirc it also had lettuce, tomato, caramelized onions, and some pickles.  It was not a very enjoyable burger; when I get something like arrachera burger vs. ‘regular’ I’m expecting better meat, but this was just another frozen patty of not that great of quality (although not the worst) – completely unexciting though.  Nothing interesting going on here.

Fries

Standard fries, I would have welcomed some more salt.

Overall

While the price is cheap for a burger place, there was nothing here to draw me back in again or advise anyone take a look.

Las Hamburguesas de SOTELO – (Lomas de Sotelo)

Visited: 9/15/2021 – dessert cheeseburger; Texas burger (88) + waffle fries (50), 138 MXN.

Vibe

These guys enjoy some widespread reputation and my understanding is the stand is practically always busy.  Plenty of cars drive up to eat and there are people at the stand as well.  I ate at the countertop.

Burger

I got the Texas burger: meat, cheese (your choice, I did American), sausage, and bacon.  You also get to add toppings – I just said them all, which is onions, lettuce, tomato, think they did mustard and ketchup too?  I wasn’t sure what sausage would be – turns out, that is just a hot dog they halve and stuff in there too.  I was thankful for the plastic wrapping to help keep things in control.  Nothing special about the patty, and in the end this is just a way to shovel a bunch of processed stuff in your face; patty, hot dog, I think the cheese was just some liquid cheese substance?  I figure much of the reputation of this place is due to late night hungry/drunk people just going to the one place that is open.  It wasn’t bad, but it also wasn’t good, and I wouldn’t say it’s a place worth putting effor into going to.

IMHO, Hamburguesas a la Parrilla is a lot better late night burger stand, although open until “only” 2am vs. 4am.  I would much rather go there however.  Plus even I try to avoid a burger past 2am.  (Although it has of course been done.)

Fries

Can’t go wrong on maximizing surface area crunch with waffle fries.

Overall

If it’s late/the only place open/you’re in the area – it might be worth a stop.  Otherwise you have better options to explore.

Soriana – (Granada)

Visited: 9/16/2021 – lunch; Texas burger (128) + pop (25), 153 MXN.

Vibe

Soriana is a grocery store with a food court/eatery in it, this one located in the Miyana mall.  Various spots offer various cuisine, some starting from breakfast hours but others for lunch.  I believe all close at 9pm.

Burger

The Texas (my 2 in a row coincidence this time) burger has dijon mustard, mayonnaise, bacon, cheddar cheese, coleslaw, crispy onions, and bbq sauce.  At least that is what it says; I only had a little bacon, and don’t think there were any onions on it?  That being said, it was a pretty good burger.  The bun, bottom in particular, got toasted a bit too long and was a bit crumbly; the patty was good but would have been better if less done and a bit more juicy.  Although the burger benefit from having the slaw to help out here.  The patty offered beef with good consistency and overall everything came together well.  At 153 MXN this is one of the best deals on this page, as it was a more satisfying burger and meal than many costing 200 or more.

Fries

The fries were pretty good, albeit slightly overdone.  So little was going on at around 1:30pm that I wasn’t even sure these places were open, yet after my order a few other people showed up, and one woman was handling juggling much of the food and order taking at the same time.

Overall

Note that this is in the same mall as Connor’s.  Pretty solid value at this price point, and this burger left me satisfied.  An option worth considering and a good spot for a lunch.

BURGER HAAUS – (Juárez)

Visited: 9/16/2021 – dinner; Tom Boy burger and fries (195) + glass of water (0), w/10% tip: 215.

Vibe

Burger Haaus is a nice corner restaurant in a low traffic cool area with some other cool cafes and restaurants around.  It has a good amount of indoor and outdoor seating.

Burger

The Tom Boy description states: beef, American cheese, cheddar cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and homemade mayonnaise.  The bun was nice and soft but also well toasted.  The patty was just ok as a base; nothing to get excited about, but the flavors of the burger all came together and made for a good experience.  The mayo in particular I really enjoyed.

Fries

Nice to have some different style fries; kind of like very skinny wedges.  Enjoyed them.

Overall

A good experience overall; not rushing out to return to here, but would be happy to visit again and try some additional burger options.

The Burger Market Reforma – (Juárez)

Ordered: 9/16/2021 – second dinner; Angus burger w/elotes (199) + delivery and 10% tip: 246.

Vibe

Another Uber Eats and late night meal I should have probably avoided.  I’m trying to get through this list though!

Burger

Description: 200g of Angus meat with white cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles.  A far cry from the lovely pictures.  Not bad, but also, not really good either.  I would advise exploring other options.

Elotes

Just some plain grilled corn really.  I didl like the option of multiple things besides fries.

Overall

Nothing remarkable about this burger; there are certainly better delivery options.

Yago’s Grill – (Narvarte Poniente)

Visited: 9/17/2021 – dinner; mediana Americano burger with potato wedges and water (125) + w/10% tip: 138.

Vibe

A small place with a little indoor seating and some outdoor seating.  I ducked in to escape some brutal rain for are pre-cheeseburger dinner cheeseburger, because I do things like that.

Burger

There are different sizes of patty you can get and various different toppings.  This was basically a standard cheeseburger, probably with a lot of stuff you could have just generically done at the store.  The best part was the cheese.  A fairly standard frozen patty and just a store bought seeming bun.  Nothing to get excited over as some google reviews suggest though.

Fries

Tried for curly fries but they only had regular and wedges.  The wedges were plentiful and pretty good.

Overall

Not a bad price point compared to many others, and lots of fries; although nothing of particular interest for the burger that would have me coming back.

Bacon Bar & Tap Room – (Narvarte Poniente)

Visited: 9/17/2021 – actual dinner; bacon boss burger (179) + oatmeal stout (99) + deep fried bacon wrapped oreos (120), w/10% tip: 438.

Vibe

Cool hamburger/bacon bar with some indoor and outdoor seating.  They have a simple one page menu, which is rare and when seen, I typically expect everything on it to be done well.

Burger

The bacon boss burger is: homemade bun, beef burger, cheddar cheese, bacon, and honey sriracha sauce.  I ordered the burger medium, and it was the first that actually came medium, maybe even medium rare in some spots.  Most of the time this results in a burger that is medium well at best.  The bun was quite good and the whole mess was pretty delicious.  Good bacon and plenty of it.

Fries

I don’t think these were salted, although in the end I didn’t really mind given all the bacon on the burger and the ability to dip it into the ketchup or sauce along with everything else I was stuffing into my face.

Flying Saucers

Along with the bacony menu are the bacon desserts; these are bacon wrapped deep fried oreos, with maple syrup.  They are supposed to come with maple bacon ice cream, but they were out, so they gave me an extra one.

These taste like something you probably shouldn’t even eat one of, so I ate all four.

Overall

Great burger overall and some other interesting looking options on their menu; just look at this thing!  Looking forward to returning again and trying some more things from their menu.

The Backyard – (Roma Norte)

Visited: 9/18/2021 – lunch; burger w/fries (195) w/10% tip: 215.

Vibe

American restaurant with an up front cafe part that looked like it had some decent tables with power to work from, with a larger eating area out back with some more tables.  This is the backyard from which this pic is taken.

Burger

The burger had tomato, looks like cheddar, some caramelized onions; it also had some sweet pickles on the side.  Ordered medium although came closer to well.  It was alright; it needed more fat though.  I think it was pretty lean meat.

Fries

Big ol’ wedges with tater skins still on them.  Nice change of pace, although between fries and a baked potato at this point.  Nice fresh tomatoes and little side salad with I think some kind of honey dressing?  It was good.

Overall

This is a cool spot; although on a subsequent return I think I’ll be trying something other than the burger.

Burgers MX – (Roma Norte)

Ordered: 9/18/2021 – dinner; goat cheese burger w/fries (228) + delivery & service, +20 tip: 315 if no promos.

Vibe

This is a dark kitchen and Rappi order.  If creating a new account, put miket2265 as the referral and I believe you get 1000 MXN and I get 160 credits!  This place is also known as burgermx or burgermx_.

Burger

The goat cheese burger is described as: brioche bread, 150 grams of meat, caramelized onion, goat cheese, jalapeños, and chipotle sauce.  The patty was pretty average, but really just along for the ride with everything else going on in this burger.  Between all the chipotle sauce, goat cheese, and jalapeños there are a lot of tasty flavors going on, patty or not.  Not sure what I would think with a more standard set of toppings, but this burger overall was pretty satisfying.

Fries

Delivery fries were unsurprisingly soft, although well salted and pretty tasty.

Overall

While this burger was decent, I’m not sure I’d enjoy others on the menu, and it may just be the goat cheese and sauce combo that reeled me in.  Worth potentially exploring as a delivery option, but there are some that I think were better patties and likely have better options across the board.

Loose Blues / LB Dining – (Juárez)

Visited: 9/19/2021 – dinner; LB Burger with fries (230) + water (65), w/10% tip: 325.

Vibe

LB Dining is on top of/through the Loose Blues boutique clothing shop on the 1st floor.  You go through the shop and up a semi-small staircase in the back to get up to the restaurant.  It is a cool space with the chef’s small kitchen area right in front of you as well.

Burger

The LB burger description is: umami hamburger with avocado dip, provolone cheese, caramelized onions, and served with fries.  As can be seen there is also tomato and pickles in it.  I forgot if there was lettuce.  In any case, it was a well cooked and good flavored patty, and I really enjoyed it with everything else going on as well.  Possibly too many pickles but easy to remedy that if not a fan.  The avocado sauce was great and the burger overall was quite good and I can definitely recommend it.

Fries

Really nicely seasoned fries, probably the best ones on this page.  Came with what I think was a house made ketchup.  Good stuff.

Overall

Cool spot and experience with a great burger.  I think I’d be torn on a subsequent visit between having the burger again or trying something else on the menu.  Either way, I’d expect to enjoy the experience.

La Docena – (Polanco)

Visited: 9/20/2021 – lunch; rib eye burger (240) with fries (+60) + water (55), w/10% tip: 391.

Vibe

A nice restaurant with a couple of locations; lots of seafood but also some steak and burger options as well.  I ran out to the one near me for lunch.

Burger

The rib eye burger description is: 180g beef, homemade mayonnaise, pickle, red onion, and Mennonite Excelsior cheese.  The burger had two patties, was seasoned well and pretty juicy.  The mayo was great and I enjoyed the burger overall, and it can easily make its way to the recommended list.

Fries

Fries ordered separately, with I believe some house ketchup as well.  I think they were a little overcooked but I was hungry and put them all down.

Overall

The burger was good, although on a subsequent visit here, I think I’d be more likely to try a seafood option and save my burger cravings for somewhere else another day.

212 Burger Bar – (Condesa)

Visited: 9/21/2021 – lunch; chilango burger (159) with fries (+49) + coke zero (39), w/10% tip: 272.

Vibe

Oops, forgot to get a pic.  Nice quieter spot in Condesa with some outdoor seating.  IIRC fairly small inside with little to none there.  Seems to be the same owner of the 212 Pizza Bar right around the corner, which did have some good looking pies.

Burger

I tried to order the Sexyness burger, but the server came back and noted they were outof something so it was not available.  I ended up with the Chilango, described as: pico de gallo, guacamole, tempura oxaca cheese, and aioli sauce.  I believe all of 212’s burgers come as 2 patties?  They seemed like frozen but decent quality meat, char grilled.  Good consistency, but a bit dry – although the guac and aioli restore moisture to the burger.  The tempura cheese was a nice add and something different.  A topping burger but tasty choice of toppings and I enjoyed it.

Fries

Fairly standard McDonald’s like fries.  I tried to order the curly fries but they were not available.

Overall

The patties were ok, albeit a bit dry; but the toppings made this overall a good experience and enjoyable burger.  It’s not at the top of my list, but I would not mind visiting again to have either this burger or try another one from their menu.

Frëims – (Hipódromo)

Visited: 9/21/2021 – dinner; burger master 19 w/fries (175) + water (40), w/10% tip: 237.

Vibe

Nice place with some indoor and some cool backyard seating, which you’ll have to hit up google for as I sat inside.  Lots of nice looking food pictures here as well.

Burger

I got the Burger Master 19: grilled top sirloin with asadero cheese, grilled avocado, hoja santa, lettuce, and chile habanero sauce, in a potato bun.  The burger itself was juicy and well cooked but I could have used some more seasoning.  I think my favorite part was the chile habanero sauce.  Least favorite was the bun; I’ve halved very few burgers here to divide and conquer; most of which I just squished and yolo’d and was able to eat, even if they are looking pretty sizable.  I’m not sure if that is possible with this burger given the bun; pretty little structural integrity in this burger overall, so I think it is nearly inevitable you will be finishing it off with a knife and fork.  While the burger was good, I would look to explore another option here on a subsequent visit.

Fries

My two-in-a-row experience this time was pretty similar McFries, which were good.

Overall

This burger was fairly good, and quite a bit messy; although I would save my burger cravings for another option on this page.  Visiting here, I would recommend trying out another menu item instead.

Goldie Burgers – (Roma Norte)

Ordered: 9/22/2021 – lunch; ordered on Uber Eats – single burger w/fries (180) with fries (+65), +delivery/service charge and w/10% tip, 280 MXN.  The description did not include fries with the burger, but they are provided.  So annoyingly had a ton of fries and threw much of them away.

Vibe

Your kitchen or whatnot yet again.

Burgers

The burger came wrapped in some foil to keep it warm.  Single burger with brioche bread, Angus meat (120g), cheddar cheese, GB sauce, bacon jam, and onion confit.  The onion confit is definitely bringing a big sweet flavor to the burger.  Pretty good, wouldn’t mind trying their bacon burger either.  Good cheese and patty, up there with Chubbies for a solid delivery option.

Fries

Cajun fries with their “secret rub” came crunchy and pretty good, both the rub and the fries.  Maybe a little overcooked to stay crunchy, but I enjoyed them.

Overall

This is a good delivery option and one I can recommend exploring.

Tennessee Jack’s House – (Condesa)

Visited: 9/22/2021 – dinner; gentleman burger w/potato wedges (197) + stout (139), w/10% tip: 370.

Vibe

Corner restaurant spot with a fair amount of indoor and outdoor seating.  Also open later than many options, and this includes the ability to eat here and the kitchen being open.  Some spots say they are open late, but the kitchen itself is closed or they become take away only.

Burger

It was not much of a looker and I thought it fair to open it up; most of the burgers on menu are pretty sizeable looking from the outside, although not the gentleman in particular.  It is described as: 160g sirloin burger with cheese sauce roquefort, roasted tomato, arugula, with reduction of red wine, and prepared mayonnaise.  The most notable part being the red win reduction liquid and sweetness.  The patty itself was just ok; it would benefit from some more fat.  I would say in general this place is offering toppings based burgers, but it is a decent base to start from, and multiple burgers on the menu look enjoyable.

Fries

Potato wedges with some kind of mayo.  Ketchup also served.  A little carrot slaw as well I should note.  All very good.

Overall

Enjoyed this place more than I was expecting; good patty base for toppings based burgers of which they have a large variety.  I would not mind visiting again and exploring some of the other menu options.

Masaale – (San Rafael)

Visited: 9/23/2021 – lunch; Thatcher burger w/fries (110) + water (20), +10 tip: 140.

Vibe

Street shop in a quiet area of town with some indoor and outdoor seating.

Burger

The Thatcher burger is describe as 150g beef, spinach, tomato, pickles, and sweet bacon.  Although you can also see it came with some kind of cheese; I’ll assume cheddar.  The patty was ok; could have used a bit more fat like usual.  The things that stuck out on this burger were the bun and the bacon dulce.  The bun was a little dry, not sure if overly toasted or older?  It was the thing that could have been most improved.  The sweet bacon was great, and like bacon candy on top.  Overall it was enjoyable and i would hope a subsequent visit to have a better bun experience.

Fries

The fries were quite well salted; they ranged from lightly crunchy to soft for me.  Tasted good and the carrot slaw was good as well.  I think he saw I was a little indecisive on one or the other and decided to give me a try of both.

Overall

Quite and lesser known spot I think, with multiple good looking burger options to explore.  Can recommend a stop by to try some out.

Habita – (Polanco)

Visited: 9/23/2021 – dinner; Habita burger w/fries (220) + water (60), +30 tip: 310.

Vibe

Restaurant in the Habita hotel – which doesn’t really have it’s own name, nor menu, nor entry on google maps.

Burger

180g burger, sweet pickles, red onion, lettuce, tomato, mayo, some kind of melted cheese.  Patty was cooked well and not that fatty so not that juicy as a result.  Overall good flavor of the burger though, not sure if it was the mayo or something else that was really sticking out to me, but I did enjoy it.  Quite good for unnamed restaurant, not sure why they don’t list it so the googles and the peoples even know it exists.

Fries

Nice fries, maybe not double fried but enjoyed them, pretty well salted.

Overall

This place needs to get a name and entry on google maps.  Worth consideration if you are in Polanco and looking for a simple solid burger choice.

Petit Roquefort – (Juárez)

Visited: 9/24/2021 – lunch; burger w/fries (230) + water (0), w/10% tip: 253.

Vibe

Cool spot with some nice outdoor seating along a quiet street.  Lots of good looking options on their menu and in their google photos.

Burger

200g of beef, bacon, cheddar cheese, monterrey jack, caramelized onions with beer, and pickles.  A good well balanced burger overall.  It seemed to have just the right amount of everything on it.  I wasn’t asked for how well to cook it, more towards a medium would have been nice to get it a little more juicy, but I was quite satisfied.

Fries

French fries with parmesan and habanero aioli.  Seems like my 2 in a row this time might be fries that are not double fried, nonetheless they tasted great.  I actually don’t recall getting too much heat from this aioli at all?  Although the other two sauces/dips provided with the ketchup were both quite spicy.  Now that I think about it, mixing some into the aioli would probably have been a hit.

Overall

This is a good burger in a really cool spot.  They have a lot of great looking stuff on their menu.  This includes breakfast/brunch options as well.  Definitely worth a visit.

Borona Lonchería – (Roma Sur)

Visited: 9/25/2021 – lunch; Carmen burger w/fries (160) + water (30), w/15% tip: 219.

Vibe

Two spots for outdoor street seating and oops forgot to take a pic.  Met a friend here for lunch.

Burger

Homemade brioche bun, cilantro mayo, roasted peppers, caramelized onions, and melted cheese.  I did a poor job of sending myself notes for this one, it was a solid burger though, enjoyed and can comfortably be put it on the worth the money list.

Fries

Some wedges, iirc not that cronchy?  Good though and finished them all off along with the burger.

Overall

Cool spot with a lot of good looking items on their menu.  I’d be happy to return; happy to have the burger as well, but might try another menu option too.  It would be a tough decision; good looking place with lots of interesting looking dishes to try.

Amaya – (Juárez)

Visited: 9/25/2021 – dinner; hamburger (195) + potato salad (50) + water (55), w/10% tip: 330.

Vibe

Cool spot with indoor and outdoor seating.

Burger

Grilled burger with free range meat.  Not sure what all was on this guy – a ketchup, lettuce, tomato, red onion. cheddar cheese?  Some kind of mayo.  I was not asked how I’d like it cooked; I typically ask for medium and something arrives medium well or well; this guy was medium rare.  Do keep that in mind if you go and would prefer something else!  Enjoyed this burger and quite enjoyed this meal overall.

Potato Salad

I asked con papas?  Which it did not say were included on the menu.  I generally expect a simple yes here or noting I have to pick a side separately; my bad Spanish aside I recall the conversation basically being summed up as “yuuup” – although fries are not included.  The papas I got were a nice potato salad; warm and creamy and very tasty.  Doubtful any less calories than any fries, but these were very good and a nice break from fries at that.

Overall

Really enjoyed dining here and would be happy to do so again; whether trying something else on the menu or happily ordering the burger another time.

Hamburguesa Mataleón – (Roma Norte)

Visited: 9/26/2021 – lunch; Mataleón burger (50) + mac & cheese (50), w/10% tip: 110.

Vibe

Indoor and outdoor seating in a cool circle plaza area of Roma Norte with many eateries around.

Burger

150g with homemade bun, 2 cheeses, lettuce, tomato, special sauce, and caramelized onions..  There are 2 base burgers here, this one and the kimura (bbq ranch) – both of which you can double up on patties and add more toppings to.  Pre-list I tried this place for a late dinner and didn’t really think I’d be back, but it comes up in many lists so I thought I’d give it a second chance.  I had a much better experience this time, although my patty here is looking a bit mangled.  The burger was quite good though. I particularly enjoyed the cheese which they seem to grill and plop onto it.  The patty was well seasoned and there was lots of savory salty goodness.  I don’t think you can beat it for 50 MXN.

Mac

Bacon mac & cheese; served in a dog bowl and in quite a hearty portion.  I would have been fine with half.  Not sure what kind of cheese.  It was decent, although on a return visit I would get some kind of fries.

Overall

Pretty cheap for a pretty substantial amount of food.  It did take a second try for me to have a good experience here; I think it is one I can recommend, although for my typical burger rotation and cravings I’ll likely be ending up somewhere else myself.

A la Burger – (San Rafael)

Visited: 9/26/2021 – dinner; a la burger w/fries (150) + beer (35), w/10% tip: 204.

Vibe

Small corner street shop with some outdoor and indoor seating.

Burger

Not exactly sure how to slide this one in here.  Arrachera with lettuce, tomato, ketchup, mayo, mustard, and goat cheese.  I like the goat cheese on it.  Note it wasn’t an arrachera patty though – but actually strips of arrachera/skirt steak.  I would describe this as a steak sandwich then vs. hamburger or steakburger (typically a cut of meat usually used for steaks but ground to make a hamburger).  I enjoyed it, although am not sure how to place it in here given that hey, it wasn’t a hamburger (which they do offer) – so perhaps I will leave it to you as a reader for some feedback if you visit.

Fries

It came with fries, I actually wanted to try their “ball fries” – and although the girl who took my order seemed to understand english better than most people I talk to, when I asked for ball fries she just kept letting me know it came with fries, and didn’t make a change to try them.  These are the bolipapas here which look pretty interesting to me, but at the moment I’m not down for returning to try them and a regular hamburger because I am looking for this hamburger adventure to end, I need a break lol.  The fries were good and fresh, yet another set that doesn’t seem double fried, although I enjoyed them.  No complaints, other than that I really wanted to try the bolipapas instead.

Overall

I had kind of an execution fail on my part here, given that I don’t know what the burger is like and did not get to try these bolipapas.  I probably need to visit again simply to get both of these out of the way and satisfy my curiosity!

Pound – (Tacubaya)

Ordered: 9/27/2021 – lunch; diablo w/fries (189) , w/delivery +20 tip: 254.

Vibe

A Rappi order at home (didn’t see them on Uber Eats) – so the kitchen once again.

Burger

Potato bread, 120g certified Angus beef, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, caramelized onion with habanero, jalapeño and secret dressing. This burger came a bit further away than most of my orders; but still arrived in a good state.  The burger was wrapped in foil.  It had a good bit of heat but nothing overwhelming as a diablo.  Well seasoned patty with a good texture.  Enjoyed overall and definitely one of the better delivery burgers.

Fries

The fries were not as warm, but still crunchy, pretty solid for delivery fries.  Thin McDonald’s style, all very good, with ketchup and a chipotle mayo.

Overall

Not a bad option, although not the most interesting to me, for delivery.  While better than many, I’d still opt for some others in front of this one when ordering delivery.

The Palm – (Polanco)

Visited: 9/27/2021 – dinner; Wagyu burger w/fries (510) + water (48) + cover charge (45) + crab cake (450) + americano (50) + key lime pie (199), w/10% tip: 1432.

Vibe

The Palm is located inside the InterContinental hotel.  For whatever reason I decided to go ham here and eat a lot, and it wasn’t the most inexpensive place to do so.

Starters

Some nice bread to start.  I also ordered the crab cake and quite enjoyed it.  It’s been a long time since I’ve had one.  It has not been a long time since I’ve had a burger.

Burger

The palm has 3 beef burgers, all 400g so pretty sizable.  The Wagyu has cheddar cheese melted on it, then you can add ketchup/mayo/mustard, also some pickled jalapeños, in addition to lettuce, tomato, red onion, and pickles.  A big burger but I just went for it without halving it, and it kept together pretty well.  Good structural integrity with the bun here.  It was cooked well but I found it still to be fairly juicy and good.  It was a good burger that I can recommend, although it is not one that leaves me rushing to come back for it again.

Fries

The fries were a little off to me, at least at first.  I did not mind or notice my critique once scarfing them down in turn with my burger.  They seemed a little overcooked or something however.

Dessert

I ordered some key lime pie, of course got a whole 1/4 of pie that would really be better suited for two.  Halfway through I was pretty full, although I paid for the whole thing, so eat the whole thing I must.  Many a calorie was consumed during this meal.  It was actually a bit too cold, leaving me wondering if it was in the back of the fridge for a while or what.  The crust in some parts was difficult to break though, although I enjoyed the sugary crust quite a bit.

Overall

A bit annoyed that a place where I happened to say screw it and order multiple courses ended up charging me an additional cover charge at the end; especially since it’s the only one of the fancy eateries to do so.  Enjoyed the experience overall; although not in a rush to repeat it; not sure if it was really worth the money in the end, but at the time I was happy to run through all this food.

De Huevos – (Condesa)

Ordered: 9/28/2021 – brunch; huevoburger (129)  + croquettes (70), w/delivery +22.4 tip: 246.

Vibe

An Uber Eats for me, due to not being able to walk out to try and and looking for a work from home brunch/lunch. I have walked by this place a bunch of times though, cool yellow box street shop with a lot of egg based options.  Opens early and closes by late lunch as well.

Burger

Cheeseburger with brioche bread, cheddar cheese, pickles, dijonnaise, chipotle ketchup, avocado dip and caramelized onion. The bun here was a little off for me, the crown a bit too firm/hard.  They have a lot of egg based sandwiches this bun is surely shared across.  Wasn’t my favorito.  The burger itself was a pretty average basic patty.  Decent flavor overall with all the toppings, but I’d be trying something else on a subsequent visit.

Croquettes

A salty fried egg and bacon croquette – nice savory mix, although was really expecting some kind of dip to be included with them.

Overall

While I might try here again, I’d likely do so in person, and order some non-burger items.

Eloise Chic Cuisine – (San Ángel)

Visited: 9/28/2021 – dinner; 2 burgers w/fries (390) + water (40), w/10% tip: 473.

Vibe

Visited with a coworker who just joined the company, forgot to take a pic, but here’s one on facebook.  A French restaurant with a few burgers on offer; and a surprising 2 for 1 special on Tuesday.  Thus we ordered 2 Eloise burgers, and split a Bacon burger and a Margaret burger.

Burger

All burgers were ordered medium and cooked medium, a rarity!

Eloise – 220g Angus beef, braised short rib, pecorino cheese, on a parmesan bun.  Tasty burger with a good helping of the braised rib meat on top.  Savory and delicious and I enjoy a parmesan bun.  Each of us ordered the Eloise burger, then split the bacon and Margaret.

Bacon – 220g Angus beef, smoked bacon, American cheddar cheese, on an onion bun.  Unfortunately I didn’t have the best of lighting for these.  The bacon burger was good; I have a hard time picking a favorite of all of these.  This was the most standard of anything I typically eat, vs. the braised rib and mushrooms, which are not frequently in my burger diet.

Margaret – 220g Angus beef, mushroom ragout, fondue, on an onion bun.  Since I’m not generally a mushroom fan I didn’t think I would get too excited for this one; it ended up being a surprise to us both how much we enjoyed it.  All great choices!

Fries

Solid fries, each burger came with their own.  Ketchup, mayo, and pickles provided.

Overall

This is the one place that is simply too far to walk; but I found that the burgers looked good, and two people recommended it, so I had to give it a go.  These are great burgers, and it was awesome to get a chance to try all of them at once at that.  I can definitely recommend paying them a visit.

Santo Antojo MX – (Roma Norte)

Ordered: 9/29/2021 – lunch 2; Valkyrie burger combo with fries 110, w/10% tip 121 MXN.

Vibe

Ordered via Rappi; newly listed and it looks like a spot you can visit on google maps; new with good reviews.  Do they match reality?

Burger

I paid more for the arrachera burger, so in theory this is an upgraded patty.  I don’t have much to say about it other than it looked sad and tasted sad as well.  Seems like an entry level uninteresting frozen patty.  You’d really have to dress this up with toppings but I’m not sure any would make me interested in having one again.

Fries

No fries included and I didn’t add any on this order.

Overall

Fairly disappointing considering that this patty was supposed to be an upgraded one.

Rocking Burgers – (Hipódromo Condesa)

Ordered: 9/29/2021 – dinner; Rolling burger with fries (110), w/delivery, service, & tip: 160 MXN.

Vibe

Ordered via Uber Eats.  Sometimes the forecast says things are fine, I go out and get rained on.  It said it was going to rain a bunch tonight; nothing happened and I ended up ordering a couple burgers in rather than at least going out for a walk to try some.  Oh well!  Kitchen it is once again.

Burger

This burger comes with mushrooms, gouda cheese, and chipotle dressing.  This patty was not as artificial looking as the one prior just above, however was still a pretty uninteresting frozen seeming patty.  These probably come out best charred; as it was, it was not very interesting and the toppings didn’t make it something I’d consider ordering again as a whole either.

Fries

The fries were pretty decent and still crunchy.

Overall

Better off exploring other burger delivery options, or exploring delivery tacos.

Primitivo Burgers – (Virreyes)

Ordered: 9/29/2021 – dinner 2; La Brie burger combo with fries 196, w/delivery, service, & tip: 247 MXN.

Vibe

Another order from Uber Eats.  This is a chain with a few locations; a closer one is Torre Reforma which I planned to visit, but it was easier to try them out via Uber Eats; I think only this location is listed on there.

Burger

The La Brie burger is listed as: 150g of 100% Angus beef, Brie cheese, arugula, caramelized onion, & caramelized figs with balsamic vinegar.  The patty had decent seasoning and texture; I enjoyed the burger and am sure I would have enjoyed it more having it on site rather a fairly long Uber away.  What really stuck out on this burger was certainly the sweetness of both the balsamic and the figs.  I wouldn’t mind trying another from these guys, although would visit their Reforma location for it.

Fries

The fries came in a little bag that made them look like a comically small amount vs. the typical order.  100g were noted in the listing.  They were still crunchy and pretty good.

Overall

Quite the sweet and different burger here; I would be happy to try some others from this chain, but would plan to do so on sight rather than via delivery.

The B – (Condesa)

Ordered: 9/30/2021 – lunch; Chicago burger (155) with fries (+75), w/delivery, service, & 10% tip: 286 MXN.

Vibe

The last planned order from Uber Eats to get a lunch burger in to this day’s work schedule.

Burger

The Chicago burger is described as: 150g Angus beef combined with a portion of a delicious blue cheese, inside our exquisite brioche bread; all our burgers are served with lettuce, tomato, red onion, caramelized onion, and pickles.  The burger patty here was just ok; nothing to get excited over but not some of the low quality entry market meat seen elsewhere.  Definitely a topping burger; and in this case plenty of blue cheese.  Really what I experienced most from this meal was the cheese along with the heat of this habanero dip; I did enjoy this combo but am not sure I would have enjoyed other burgers as well.

Fries

The fries were a bit soft.  Likely from steaming on the way over for delivery.  Still were pretty good though, alternated between the ketchup and the spicy sauce that was provided.

Overall

While I enjoyed the cheesy heat, I think I’d opt for a different burger place for future deliveries or poking around the area at this burger price point.

Burger’s Sons Roma – (Roma Sur)

Visited: 9/30/2021 – dinner; Burger’s Sons (weird name) burger w/fries (159) + beer (99), w/10% tip: 284.

Vibe

Roma Sur location off a busy main street (Insurgentes Sur) with indoor and outdoor seating, a guy playing some songs this Thursday night.

Burger

125g patty, with mushrooms and goat cheese.  Also tomatoes, red onion, and lettuce.  Another take it or leave it patty, and definitely a toppings burger.  The best part was definitely the goat cheese.  What I enjoyed most about this meal was really the burger being a vehicle for goat cheese and taking turns with the beer.

Fries

Fries weren’t particularly interesting, look like they’ve got stuff on them but did not think they had much flavor, I guess just undersalted.  Also a bit overdone.

Overall

I’m not really enticed to return to this place due to the patty itself not being that interesting.  I can get my goat cheese fix elsewhere with better meat.

Yellow Monkey – (Condesa)

Visited: 10/1/2021 – lunch; monkey burger w/rosemary potatoes (200) + water (0), w/10% tip: 220.

Vibe

Cool little street spot with indoor and outdoor seating in Condesa, also has a shakshuka and thus made my best shakshukas in Mexico City list.

Burger

The monkey hamburger is described as: 200g of sirloin, mozzarella cheese, bacon, tomato, lettuce, and balsamic onions in a rosemary bun.  The lettuce, tomato, red onions, and avocado came off to the side; it also came with some sweet pickles on top.  The patty had good seasoning and texture, and the burger overall was great.  It also has some kind of mayo on it, and the cheese, mayo, and bacon combo on top of the burger made a good combo; I ate all the other stuff but didn’t actually toss it in the burger.  Sometimes bacon is just kind of barely seemingly present, but these bits were crunchy and flavorful.  The bun was interesting and a bit different, good toast and consistency and chew; really enjoyed every component of this burger.

Fries

I opted for rosemary potatoes instead of fries; there were some other options as well.  Some bits were a bit too crispy but really enjoyed these and I’m sure they were at least a bit healthier than fries too.  I would be happy to get them again.

Overall

I’ve enjoyed the shakshuka from here and this was a great burger experience as well.  They have some salmon dish listed that I would like to try as well.  Overall this is a great place I can happily recommend.

Loup Bar – (Roma Norte)

Visited: 10/1/2021 – dinner; Loup Burger (185) + side salad (45) + beer (120), w/10% tip: 385.

Vibe

Cool spot recommended by a coworker with some indoor and outdoor seating; Friday night one should roll in with a reservation really, flying solo I got a seat at the bar.  This pic makes it seem brighter than it really was in there, especially in the small bar area I sat in.

Burger

Wagyu beef, sobrasada sausage, homemade bacon, and manchego cheese.  This pic came out surprisingly well given how dark this particular area was and with this small candle being my flickering source of light.  I’m not sure what all else was on the burger; some kind of pickles and sausage as well.  I couldn’t place the sausage when I was eating it and didn’t notice until translating now that those were the extra bits of unknown something to me.  Good juicy burger, I asked for it medium and it seemed to be cooked around there as well; it was too dark for me to tell by sight.  A good high note to complete this burger journey, celebrating it with an oatmeal stout along with this burger.

Salad

We being healthy fam, finishing on a healthy note.  A 90 day best salad article next and I’ll undo all the damage to myself that I’ve done!  Simple very green side salad with some kind of salty dressing.  Enjoyed it, despite not thinking I would from something so green.

Overall

Definitely a solid burger I can recommend; although on a subsequent visit I would have to try it with the fries.  They would certainly go better with an oatmeal stout than salad.
